5 hours labor for checking the cam follower!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
That's what I've been told to get the cam/cam follower/HPFP checked. nothing else to say. Fking audi dealers. I will call AOA on monday but just cause I like to fight with the customer service. I don't think they'll do something about it. They were always on dealer's side. Had to deal with them before.

5 hours is fucking nuts man.. any qualified tech could have the job done in an hour or less. Its REALLY straight-forward, especially if you're doing it over and over again like a dealer would be..

This is the only audi dealer in 100 miles radius. I would love have my car serviced and repaired somewhere else

Just do it yourself. The first time is a little time consuming, but it really isn't that bad. Get your hands dirty and save some money.

I don't think so. They need to replace the cam and HPFP also.

Agreed, your first post indicated the 5hours was simple to check the cam follower. If its to replace a cam and the hpfp thats probably about right.

Since I'm a nice guy, I'll only charge for 4 hours labor! I'll only charge $300 for an oil change, too! Since everyone who owns an Audi is rich.

what part of jersey are you from bro? im sure i could point you in the right direction to a better dealer. FYI they really take their service reviews seriously so if you get bad service and it shows on their review then its like a kick in the junk for them from their corporate.

Hey, did mine today. Lost 2 screws, took an hour to get them fished out of the engine bay! Removed my follower and: Viola! No issues. Just mild scoring @ 65,000 miles. Amsoil Synthetic oil changed regularly. Wish I had the coin for the upgraded HFFP! Damn $1000!!
At least I didn't have to go to the dealer thanks to the guy who posted the DiY. Thanks very much! Guess at least changing out the follower will give me some piece of mind!

Just replaced mine today. Had help from a friend of mine, long time Audi/VW mechanic. Took about 20 min. I'm sure I'll be able to do it alone the next time in about 30-40 min.
My car has 35K, I'm the second owner, by all accounts it seemed to have been properly maintained by the previous owner. It looked like this:

    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink
    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink
    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink

Not too bad, the coating just about gone but still in decent shape, I'm glad it was replaced. I also replaced the PCV valve and using my friend's tools and adaptors we used 2 cans of BG induction system cleaner to help remove carbon build-up on the intake valves. I'm off the subject a little, but I must say the PCV replacement and carbon cleaning improved the idle immensely. Noticeably smoother now, and maybe it's just in my head but during the short drive afterward the car felt more responsive.

Tried to post in the official cam follower thread but it appears I don't have privileges.

Good deal on the PCV valve! I should have done mine too. My follower looked little bit better than yours, but I have also been running Amsoil for the last 4 years. I dunno, but that is the only oil I use in my Ducati and Suzuki and my A4 Bora
