    2007 S4 - Right Rear Rubbing

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I am new to Audi's and I can't figure this out. I am currently running VMR 19 inch RS4 like wheels with 245-35-19 tires on vogtland coilovers. The car currently sits 25 inches fender to ground at each corner. I am rubbing on the right rear only. If I do the "finger" test I have plenty of clearance on the left side but not the right side. I have re-measured etc and they are the exact same height to ground. Does the S4 have some weird offset on the right side causing this? I am going to raise the car up again to at least 26 to stop this but I can't explain why it's happening.

    Thanks for the help!

25.5" should be plenty, but then again, most people are running 235's not 245's.

I actually have kinda the same issue and not explanation. While you're raising it up though I'd check to ensure all the bolts are tight to ensure there isn't extra play as I had to retighten my bottom shock bolt as it had loosened over time.

I have the exact same issue on the right side only. I think its quite f'in strange. My front and back right rubs first all the time, even with just me in the car. You would think It would be the opposite.

It's very weird. What size 235's are you running? 235-40 or 235-35?

    Thanks!

Just got an alignment done with no difference. Do you have any specs for what the rear should be? I have my alignment read out.

no, because i requested a certain spec.. -2.1 degrees. it could have come lose if it wasn't tightened properly.. i really think it's alignment .. mine were way out, too, before i got mine done recently. one side rubbed.

what is it rubbing on? the wheel liner or the fender itself. are your fenders rolled?

IMO your main problem is running 245 wide tires. most people go with 235's. Also 25" is pretty damn low.

I am rubbing on the fender liner. I am raising the car up now and will see if that helps. If not I will drop down to a 235 tire. It's just weird that it only rubs on the right side. If it was the tire width you would think that the left side would rub also. I am still investigating a potential alignment issue as stated above.

check the bolts on your sway bars. i had one of mine come out completely (LR) and didnt notice it until i was raising my coils to try and combat the rub. it was the sway bolt all along.

    hope it helps

I roll on 245s, and I get rubbing sometimes in the right rear. I am on stock suspension, so I would assume that you would get more rubbing in the rear. Going 235s would be your best bet. Wonder why it was just the right rear...

BTW, is that a sprint blue DTM S4 that you have?

channad - yes, I have a sprint blue DTM (I see we have the same taste). More pics in this post (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...al-repair-shop)

For the guys running 235's on 19's are you running a 235-35-19 or a 235-40-19?

So I looked at my rear alignment specs and the right side is -1.8 and the left is -1.7 degrees. Staticuxo I bet this is why I am rubbing and your not at -2.1.

well, i chose to run -2.1 for extra clearance .. plus i'm running 225/35/19 on 19x9 et29. my fender liner was literally sitting on the tire before i added some camber lol

I have the same problem with the same setup. I'm not sure exactly what my heights are around the car but I really only get it when I have heavy bags in the boot. Gonna check the heights again when I put the winter tires on next weekend, but otherwise it doesn't bother me too much.

If you really wanted to, you could adjust your subframe to sit a little further to the left.

Do you run 245's or 235 on your VMR's? I rub over large bumps with nothing else in the car. If I put people in the back it's game over, rubs way to much.
