    Losing power during acceleration

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This has happened several times now. Yesterday, I was on 3rd gear and was trying to accelerate so I punched it and got to about 5500 RPMS then, i felt the acceleration stopped. As I shifted to 4th, nothing happened still. I kept my foot on the gas and for about 10-15 seconds, nothing was happeneing but the car was maintaining speed but wasnt going any faster. Then all of a sudden it kicked in. Any ideas, what this could be? The car has new coilpacks from the dealer and was just replaced in July. I already took this car to the dealer the first time it happened and they didnt find anything cuz they cant duplicate the issue and no codes were thrown. I have like 1400 miles left on my warranty. Any ideas guys? Thanx.

Are you chipped because it was happening to me when my I was chipped and when my cam / fuel pump was bad. I believe some call this limp mode.

Get your cam / cam follower check by your dealer ASAP.

I had the same happenign with my VW Passat, a 2007 model, on that one it was the HPFP that was going bad. it had the same 2.0T engine as the B7 audis.
I demonstrated it to the dealer by having him joining me and then accelerate from 0 to arround 80mph, then it would loose the power for 10-20 sec, if I pushed teh gas pedal it would loose speed, but I could maintaing the speed by finding the right position with the gas pedal.

    I hope this helps you

I had this same problem with my 2.0T. I brought it to the dealer and they said my recert valve was torn, so I replaced it. Then it continued to happen. I brought it back to the dealer and they found out it was somethingg to do with a secondary fuel pump grinding onto the cam and that the cam needed to be replaced!! I was out of warranty by about 5K but they fixed it for me for free! (Audi has Amazing customer service) But end of the story is that they said if they didnt notice it it could have damaged a lot more if driven like that, and they wouldnt let me drive it until it was fixed. But my symptoms were exactly the same as yours! So I would recommend having them thouroly look through your car to avoid any bigger problems if this is the case.

So it looks like u need to look at ur cam follower, its in between your HPFP (hi pressure fuel pump) and your cam. If that wears thru, it has been known to, it can cause damage to your cam and hpfp.
Selling Nogoro blue Alcantara door panels. Will fit b6/b7 a4/s4/rs4. In great condition, originally wanted $600 shipped but dropped price to $500 shipped. Check my classifieds for pictures. I want these gone, will include extra door clips if requested. PM me if you want pictures of them installed or anything else I want these gone so make me an offer and we'll talk.

Start searching cam & cam follower issues. Sounds like you have a developing issue you need to address. Have someone inspect your cam follower. The cam/cam follower issue is something everyone should read about and know if you care about the longevity of these engines.

THIS!!! It happened to me and luckily I bought the extended warranty with my car. It was a 2000 dollar repair which Fidelity warranty covered...luckily...so get it checked out asap. They replaced the camsahft, fuel pump and follower on my car which was an expensive repair since they charge $120 an hour for labor.

This might be a stupid ? Just had a new diverter valve installed on my '06 A4, LOTR'S did the 55k service. He told me he was getting a fault code for the fuel pump. The car has been losing power at times and I have been thinking it is do to the ignition coil recall which I haven't taken to Audi yet. The car is running a little better with the new control valve just worried now that my mechanic is saying it could be the pump and possible cam damage! I bought the car used at 38k and have only driven it 20k miles so far. I wasn't aware of the pump issues on the early B7's and am taking the A4 into dealer for coil recall Monday. Bob at LOTR's told me to see how the car performs with the coils changed and to get back to him with the pump issue. Will the coil change fix the performance at all or are fuel pump symptoms different from ignition coil symptoms? Wanted to buy an extended warranty when I bought the car but was and still am unemployed, now I might be screwed. Just dropped over $600 for boost valve and 55k mile service and put new tires on it as well! Not to mention I have the well known headlight dipped problem going on to now for about the last 10k miles! Didn't want to buy a money pit, I think I need that extended warranty right about now.

The ignition coils may fix your problem but probly not. Man just change out your cam follower now as preventative maintenance, its well worth the 30$ it costs for the follower itself, it may be a little more expensive but no more than 50$. You can find them on ecstuning or many other companies sell them. Specially if your getting any kind of code for your fuel pump, change that NOW, its a pretty easy DIY and its better to spend 50$ and an hour and a half now, then to spend 2 grand later on. I plan on changing my cam follower every 20k just as preventative maintenance. I think changing your follower should start becoming a regular thing for audi at certain intervals, like at 30k, 60k, 90k, and so on just to save us and them money down the road. Deff get your ignition coils changed for free and have them change the cam follower while your at it, or pick one up and do it yourself. Ever since i started reading about the cam follower fail (trust me, there are many many threads on this sayin the same thing) i drove for 2 weeks scared shitless that it was going to fail until I bought one and changed it out. I changed mine at like 50k and it wasn't in very bad shape but I'm very glad I did it.

i had this problem on highway pulls, it accelerate to 100mph then lost power til it went back to 75mph and stays there, i had my foot on gas pedal all the time. if i go slower for a while then pull again, it will do the same cycle.

it turned out to be a waste gate failure.

    hope this helps.

Now let me tell you something. Audi has no amazing customer service. Actually it sucks. They are horrible from my experience, to long story to tell here. But I think the dealership itself helped more than AOA. I wish I had a dealership like this around my area. good luck with your problem.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to read up on the cam follower and address this ASAP and mention it to Bob at LOTR'S. He said they would start by taking the fuel pump apart and seeing if that is the issue but for $500!! Reading some other threads I don't hear the "hissing" associated with fuel pump problems from passenger rear side. So to ask, it is possible that there is no cam damage yet? And to take preventative measure change cam follower. I also see aftermarket fuel pumps being talked about on here and most were saying no more than $300? I kinda think it's shady of Audi to know about weaker parts in their early B7's and change them up for newer parts without issuing a recall, diverter valve, fp and the known tsb out for the dipped headlight problem. I guess that's how it goes for a used car w/o warranty, just not used to it.

It shouldn't cost more then $150 to have the cam follower inspected. It takes a mechanic on the book about 1.5hrs.

Whew! Took the car in today to Continental Audi of Naperville (Chicagoland). 49,100 on the clock. Talked to them about my issue. Car hasn't really thrown a CEL but I had them check this before and they said boost was ok and everthing else checked out and they were unable to duplicate the issue. I asked to have the cam follower checked and they said "OK" no resistance whatsoever so I was very surprised and pleased. Call came in 30 minutes ago and it was in fact an issue with a cam lobe so they said they are ordering parts... cams, and fuel pump that should come in by Monday so I should get my car back on Tuesday. They also gave me a brand spanking new '11 A4 for a loaner with Nav, sat, LEDs. it's hooked up with 15 miles on it. Needless to say, I am very pleased especially with dodging that 4,000-dollar bullet.

    WHEW!!! AUDI FTMFW!!!
