Navigation Install: Connect-2 vs. PAC interface

Forgive me if there is a very specific thread on this. I've done multiple searches and still have questions. An extensive how-to with photos will be a good follow up to this thread.

I am a week away from getting a JVC in-dash NAV unit and need to figure out the last few details. I have a couple questions for those who have done it already.

    A) Will I need a factory "diversity" antenna adapter to retain AM/FM function?
    B) Connect-2 vs. PAC: I have read threads where purchasers were required to buy multiple PAC modules... Is it worth sending the aftermarket unit wiring harness in for a hard-wire Connect-2 upgrade?
    C) Do both the PAC modules and the Connect-2 harness have programmability to change the function of the various buttons to suit?
    D) Crutchfield sends a free amp w/ purchase. Any suggestions on how to use it? Wheel chock?

    My first post... thanks

I just installed that same head unit last month. I got everything from Enfig Car Stereo. Crutchfield did not sell Connects-2, and PAC required you to by adapter after adapter for everything. There was the wiring harness for the car, then the steering wheel controls adapter, and then the adapter for the steering wheel controls adapter to make it work with an Audi. Plus, Crutchfield did not offer an antenna adapter. Here's a link from Enfig telling you exactly what you need: "http://enfig.wordpress.com/2010/09/10/audi-aftermarket-radio-installation-guide-a4-2007-2008/. The only other thing you will need is the JVC specific lead: http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s...CTJVCLEAD.html. There are a few small caveats about installing an aftermarket headhunt. The voice command button on the wheel no longer does anything. The mode button does change the source on the radio, but a message prompting you to 'Insert Phone' will pop up on the DIS wanting you to connect your phone to the car's factory Bluetooth module. So you have to press Mode twice in rapid succession to change each time to change the source and avoid the message. I assume this is only an issue if your car came with factory Bluetooth? And lastly, the iPod/iPhone USB connection is on the front. There is none on the back, so a stealthy setup with the connection running into the glove box or to a Spec2 Dock Connector is kind of impossible. That said I would still do it again. The GPS, iPod/iPhone integration, and better sound from the factory speakers (still going to upgrade down the line) are definitely worth it.

So: A) you will need the CONNECTS2 CT27AA56 antenna adapter. B) Connects-2 > PAC; Cutting off the generic end of the wiring harness and soldering the wires together yourself isn't too difficult, just time consuming. There are just a lot of wires and some of them are labeled a bit differently between the Connects-2 and JVC harness. But you do those wires last. The only thing I did differently from the directions was to connect the parking brake ground to the main ground so I didn't have to stop and pull the parking brake into the armrest every time I wanted to do something. Also the instructions want you to tap one or two other wires in the car, but the harness provides you with the necessary leads to which you can solder. C) Connects-2 = No. PAC = I don't think so. D) You could either use it to power a small sub or two speakers. But that's a whole lot of more stuff you have to buy and wire.

Show some love if I helped you more than I confused you!
