    possible oil leak question

I looked under the front of the car at the bottom of the engine and noticed a spot where oil is collecting on what looks like piping and possible intercooler piping. It was straight down from the headlight on the drivers side on the under side of the engine, if that makes sense.

Possibly buying an 03 Allroad 2.7T and want to know what this is before going forward with the buy. Its not at an Audi dealership and the closest one is 50 miles away and unfortunately in Nebraska there are no solid indy shops.

Any ideas on what this leak might be?

    Really appreciate the help.

its gonna be hard to know, unless you know the origin, oil does leak from a lot of spots in the engine, ie valve covers, cam plug, cam seals, and the list keeps going..

usually once you buy it from a private seller, check for maintenance.. timing belt is a must.. then all the seals, like i mentioned and other stuff.. oil leaks are easy to fix as long as its not the turbo's leaking..

I have a guy at the only Audi dealership around and he told me that the valve covers, cam plug, cam seals were common issues with this engine. Also stated that the repair cost was like $1200! Is this something that a basic DIYer can do or is this probably to complicated of a repair?

DIY.... if you have the time and the mechanic skills... check ecstuning for the valve cover gasket kit.. you'll save 3 time and spend more bonding time and getting familiarized with your car...
