    Alum-Optic Option

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Could someone offer up photos of their S4 with the aluminum rocker, from the "Alum-Optic" option, along the bottom of the car? I have been considering this option but it is pricy. Is the piece actually aluminum or is it simply plastic painted to look like aluminum. I am hoping it might match the same look of the mirrors.

    Thanks

my opinion is the sideblades look really out of place on anything but a white car (see Anthony's)

there just isnt enough on a dark car to tie it all in... maybe if the car had aluminum window trim instead of black... it would work better.

I ordered it and it looks fabulous on a white car. Works really well with side mirrors. On anything dark, it stands out a lot, but I would not say cheesy.

imo, that might come off as cheesy cuz he has a black grille and that rim (or is does that rim come with the alu-optic package?).

it's like half half and it does not look good

well I do agree with that. either go full black or lots of aluminum - not half and half.

richib86 is not the OP of this thread, he is helping out the OP by posting pictures of his car. He was not asking the forum for our opinions so let's show a little more respect to him and his car.

Yeah I agree. Stands out way too much on a dark car.

Yes those are the Pirelli option. It's an older version of the p-zero. The new p zero tires, a newer version are very nice you see them on some serious cars from factory.

IMO it's the least desirable tire you can get from the factory. The best is the 19" Michelin. I got the Dunlop Sport Max. Ok but not a great tire.

No particular reason. I submit few posts and felt like playing a little. I found someone who decided he did not like the look of the aluminum piece on his car so I purchased the the rocker rail from him at a rediculous price and will install it on my quartz gray S4. It is barely noticable but just enough to offer a slight contrast. I am not one to normally mod a new car but this 'forum' has enticed me to spend money. I have installed a JHM short-shifter and a Milltek exhaust. I also have on order a 2011 'S-Line' flat bottom steering wheel.' The ECU re-flash will come but not for a few months. I want to see who else will offer what and use this forum to decide. I need to find a (different) support group to keep me from carrying on like this.

which Milltek did you install? Resonated or non-resonated, with or not downpipes? I am holding for ECU reflash as well.

I wish I had a pic, and I'm prejudiced, but the Alu-Look pkg and Deep Sea Blue go really well together. Very sharp IMO. The stoneguard/rocker panel really pops out the chrome and other shiny bits all around the car, and there's quite a bit. It's definitely my favorite look, hey that's why I bought it.

i think the alum blades looks good on the lighter colors (esp ibis). On the black car its almost too much contrast and stands out too much.

    Thanks.

I realized it when I looked closer at the photo, mainly the rear wheel. What throw me off was the front wheel under sunlight, the spokes looks silver instead of anthracite.

I went ahead and installed the Alum-Optic piece along the bottom of my car. I am not going to do the badging. I like the way the V6T looks. If anyone wants the badges send me a PM. They are still in the packaging.

This piece is on my quartz gray S4. If I did not point it out you would not notice it. I bought the kit from someone who thought, as most on this post, that it was indeed "hideous" on his S4. The experiment was worth the small price and I will keep it on the car. To my own eye this slight contrast adds to the S4's asthetics - as do the aluminum look mirrors, only more reserved. The one other styling issue I have with the S4 are those shiny chrome bezels surrounding the fog-lights. It does not work. I'd be interested to get the opinon on these from others.

    1. When outsiders (non-Audi longtimers) see the S4, they think its a bit bland in styling, especially when comparing to M3 etc.
    2. Another very common comment is that it looks just like the A4.

While I'm not big on chrome in general as its associated with 'ricers', generally cheaper cars and $2 Pep Boys stickers, the Alu-optic blade, IMO does address points 1 and 2 above. This is why I got it. The car needs a bit more 'pop'.

I might change my mind down the road as I'm contemplating gunmetal wheels... we'll see.

You gotta have the right color combo and it will work. Wait till my DSB presitge arrives in December with the Alu kit. It's gonna look sharp, far from hideous.

Yeah, it makes the car stand out without being over the top, but it does work better on some colors. On silver, it's a waste of money IMO, since it's almost identical to car's exterior color. I'm not sure I like it so much on black, but I do I like the subtle yet noticeable look on white. Also matches the mirrors, front splitter and rear diffuser.
