    Checking the Oil Level

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was trying to check the oil level in the MMI 3G. The car was driven for a while (1-2 hours) then I stopped and let it settle for the 2 minutes or so as required. Then I tried both with the car on and off I still could not get a reading. Did I miss something?

Better idea...just order a real dipstick, and be done with the MMI hassle.

    That's what I did.

This is the part number for the S5 OEM Oil dipstick: 06E-115-611-H

    This is the A5 2.0 TFSI:06J 115 611 E

What do you mean by "could not get a reading?" What did the MMI tell you?

    @a5sport - I would definitely consider that.

@ ChipB - It kept saying the same thing in the MMI "Need to wait 2 mins to get a reading" or "The car must be on etc.." (something like that)

The PN listed for the S5 by a5sport is incorrect. The number he listed is for the S5 Cabriolets with the V6 S/C engines. The correct PN for the V8 S5s is: 079 115 611 AB (was 079 115 611 AD).

The procedure I go with when checking with MMI is: 1) Before shutting the car off after it is in full operating temperture, I let it idle for ~5 minutes first. 2) Turn the car off and wait between 2-5 minutes. 3) Turn the car to "On" without starting the car, then check with MMI. So far, the system has been working accordingly. But FWIW, I bought the oil dipstick before I even took delivery of the car as I don't have a lot of faith in the MMI system.

Thanks for the correction Tifosi...so much for believing what you read!

Got the p/n for the S5 off of another Audi site.

+1 on the correct part number for the S5 V8 engine as Tifosi indicated - it's 079 115 611 AB

FWIW, I ordered mine form here: http://www.worldimpex.com/search_by_...11+AB&x=30&y=8

    $22.84 + S&H.

I can get it @ Europa parts for close to the same. But I just called Audi and they said that part was for the 2007/2008 model, I have MY2010 I know it's the same engine. I did not want to argue with the guy. Last I checked on the engine it was a rubber cap to where it should go correct?

Right. I can't speak to the MY2010, but it works fine for my '09. Did the Audi guy give you a part number for the '10?

Ever since Audi stopped making the dipstick part of the car, they are now listed as specialty tools, and is what the techs use to check for oil level during services. Which is why they are not listed as "parts" for the 2009 and 2010 cars.

And yes, that's where the dipstick goes to.

I ordered 1 today. I got the reading today on the MMI but had to turn the car on again after shutting the car for the few minutes. Thanks again for all the help.
