    i herd this a lot but cant find a decent turbo used... what do you think should i do ebay are those good? and what necessary stuff i need other than turbo, injectors, and custom ECU or something, just to make it run with little extra power nothing to crazy... ?

    ebay turbos arent really that great. there are threads in which the turbos go bad after 50 miles.

    please search next time.

    you will need a k04 tune. depending on tune you'll need injectors. FMIC. DV. search...

    Some times people use that search button up there^^ and searching the term Ebay Turbo should help you out.

    i dont want to sound like an ass. This isnt directed at you...

    But what the fuck is with everyone wanting these ebay knockoff turbos? its like every noob wants to cheap out n go with a ebay turbo.. I mean hey if you guys want to be the next tester for them turbos.. GIVE er

    Only thing id buy off ebay for my car is a FMIC core.. i heard they actually are decent.


    Now back to being nice :p
    Id say check the classifieds keep watching it, guys are constantly swapping out to go BT. All depends on the cash you want to spend.

    o and yeah go with the BW turbo.. i thought about ebay too (yeah yuck it up and tell me off too because i could care less... ) but they arent built precisely and how others put it prob a TON more eloquently than i did :rolls eyes: but they wont last and things like metal shards in your engine isn't good costing more money.. I know some are on a budget.. i was when my turbo blew and wanted to go bigger (didnt happen at the right time for me) but you'll be happier

    the waste in money is the fact your spending like 2k or w/e to gain what 40hp over a bolt on ko3. i will be getting a 1.8tqm soon and i wont be touching the engine until i go bt.
    op read the build threads in the project forum and since you dont seem to know much about building a engine i say you spend a few months reasearching since you have no idea what your getting yourself into.

    you get a bit more than 40hp out of it.. you can look at 100hp gain with the right exhaust, intake, injectors, tune, upgraded ic.. and its a weekend job...

    bt around 6k (at the lease) for a ton more power, yes, but car it out of commission for a while unless you have the 6k to dig out and then buy another engine to do it on and have a garage.. hahah

    i think it was a great investment for a weekend project for my DD... but hey to each their own right?

    how else could you spend 2k to add more than 100hp? (assuming you have the a few other things i mentioned) just curious, not trying to be a douche, but may help out the poster too...

    Coming from a guy with stock turbo, i view the siutation by the actual names of the turbos. Your stock turbo is called "K03" (or K03s if '01). The K04 turbo shares part of the same name, only difference is increase in number. This is increase is probably associated from an increase in power from the original K03, so basically the turbos are quite similar. Then there's the other turbo names, like "GT28RS" and "GT2871R", and im going to guess that these turbos are entirely different and probably designed differently, which is why the model name is so different. These turbos are generally associated with a much more significant increase in power than a K04, and that is fact. I look at the K04 as an upgrade to the K03, while the other turbos I mentioned are completely different turbos with a lot more power. myy reccomendation, go the BT route and not the K04 route.

    Im getting sick of this.
    A k04 on a pc16 tune will get you 100 hp at the crank over a stock tuned k03 car with no mods (150hp).
    a k03ed car with bolt ons will make 200 hp at the crank. ie with a chip and a DV. with a test pipe etc then it mite gain another 5-10hp if your lucky.
    A well setup k04ed car on a PC16 tune with FMIC 2.5inch exhaust, 2.7bar FPR 310cc injectors etc will be lucky to make 250hp. at the crank
    So optimistically 250-205 we get a gain of 45hp at the crank or around 35awhp for the cost of around $2500-3000 considering a 034 gtrs kit is $2800 it really dosnt seem worth it to me..... but maybe my maths is off?

    My BT was no where near 6k. I think i spent maybe $2.5gs on the kit and $900 out of that was for the tune and injectors. However, i did piece mine all altogether which takes much longer but it's worth it if you know what you are looking for.
    If i throw a dog a bone, i don't want to know if it tastes good or not. Keep that in mind when you do someone a favor.

    Sigh... no one listens do they. So I'll say it again: Frankenturbo http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...Quattro/page44 Bang for the buck this is your best bet, hands down. For about $2000 you can have a setup that will put down a solid 230 WHP and 260 Wtq.

    And lest anyone think I'm pushing this because I'm running it, I'm not. I'm running a GTRS elim. However if I wanted to upgrade my K03 and didn't want to break the bank, this is the route I would have gone.

    PS: Before anyone tries to point out that the GTRS elim setup is only another $800, don't forget to add another $640 for the exhaust manifold and upgraded inlet pipe that the Frankenturbos include with the $1100 kit.

    the k04 has some good deal of benefit to it.
    pc 16s dont bust rods, aggresive 28 files can
    k04 spool quicker because of blade pitch, and can pull through to 6400 rpms vs the roughly 5500 with the k03
    k04s bolt right up and create a more reliable setup
    bigger turbos + more lag
    why gain 300 awhp if youre tooling around town in it? it all depends what you want
    if you find yourself racing people all the time, 3076 all day
    if youre merging with little patience, the quick spool and zippy umpff of the k04 is your deal

    ^^ while all of that is true, well kinda, the frankenturbo is better and cheaper in every way, the gt2x is just as good as the franken now it has water cooling but it more expensive. K04s are outdated technology, the franken and gt2x both spool just as fast as the k04 while flowing more at a higher efficiency. cnd20valve has shown with a uni 2+ file and no extra timing advance you can put down over 230awhp and over 260awtq (lbft) getting peak tq at 3200rpm, a very usable powerband from 2500rpm, thats the same spool characteristics as the k04 with more power and toqure and it dosnt choke up any more if not less than the k04 at high rpm. just go an look at the b6 thread on about pg 45 and then look through here for the k04ed car dynos. there are no k04ed awd cars that make it to 200awhp, and that is on custom tunes the highest one i have seen on here is 194awhp, PC16 cars dont come any where near that. there is no reason to go with k04s any more, why people keep pushing them is a mystery.

    I have a feeling cdn20valve has done his but thats on the b6 motor. keel bent rods on his mk1 f4h, but again b6.

    Probably not to an AEB, I ran a similar hybrid with a larger (2280) 32 lb/min compressor on my AEB with no ill effects. Made a s*itload of torque way down low and it was OK. However, your mileage may vary.

    That is sick! I need to get my car dynoed. I'm running 20psi on a 46trim and im pretty sure it's smaller than the gt2871r.

    i assume this is a full body 2871r? i guess it is..but a question with a confirmation is always good.

    when does you boost kick in? full boost when? what " exhaust as are you running
