Cool B7 Key on B6 Complete / Need Programming for Key Fob

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Team B6 A4,

I recently purchased this B7 Key:

    http://cgi.ebay.ca/02-03-04-05-AUDI-...item1e5ef0af08

I Spoke with a bunch of locksmiths to find what everyone finds "we dont cut steel keys". After everyone told me this i got rattled and drove down to a shop. I showed them the key and explained that there are people in the world who cut them and I want to know why he can't. He explained steel ruins the machine so I asked if it was possible that the blade was copper. He brought out a magnet, and sure enough it was not steel, all Audi keys are made from a copper material which is cuttable.

I then purchased a Key Reader from Ebay to read the B6 "SKC" (Secret Key Code) in which I used to program the Key with my Vag Com so that the immobilizer would be accepted by the car.

Does it work is the question.... YOU BET IT DOES.

    Now here's the problem:

I read over 10 different method's of programming the key so that your "unlock/lock" and functions work. After trying a ton of em, i am now left with my 2 regular keys, my new B7 key ... ALL OF WHICH do not operate the locks. So I am driving with either my B6 or B7 key fine but cannot operate the fob functions.

Can someone out there explain the exact procedure to follow so I can program these things again. Also any questions about the B7 Key will be followed up on.

    Thanks Team.

The product you want is "Vag Key Login" or an even better version for more is "Vag Key Com+Can V5.05" both found on Ebay or on Google by many sites, I ordered mine from Hong Kong. Be prepared to wait 3 wks.

Ok cool, maybe the only thing im missing is the Vag Com Programming (Step 6 from the link you posted which I will post below). Once I have this working I'll create a step by step process to convert your B6 -> B7 Key for roughly $100 total cost as a DIY without any steeler involvement.

Heres the step I am probably missing:

    6. Keymatch remotes using Vag-Com:
Again, go to this thread http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199643 or follow the below:

    Start Vag-Com
    Choose [46 - Comfort System]
    [Adaptation - 10]
    Go to channel 021.
    [Read]

    * Choose the memory position you want the new key be matched on by entering it's number (e.g. "3" for memory positon 3).
    [Test]

    * Now press any button on the remote you want to match.
    * The meas. block field above will change from Not Recogn. to Recognized.

    [Save]

I ordered the "Vag Key Login" found HERE

Plugs right into your OBD2. Just as if you were plugging in a Vag Com but the "guts" inside the cable are designed to only read the SKC code and adapt new keys. So basically you fire up the program, read your ECU and within 5 seconds you have your SKC code. From there you have 1 other option which is "adapting keys" where you can add/remove keys that have been programmed to your car's ECU.

Fairly easy to navigate, I'm actually shocked how many people don't know it exists.

    Thumbs up

Kudo's to you for finding a tool that reads the Immo box on the b6- as long as your car is 03' and later, you've found the grail! I Sent you a PM. I knew there are about a hundred different tools that claim to read the SKC from the 03'**> audi, but never felt like tossing $150 out the window to find out if they're honest.
and...Yeah, actually I think it's been said but that particular B7 fob might not match with the B6 system. I don't think the CCM has the instructions written in it to look for the signal that remote sends, even though it IS 315mz. You can actually look in the VCDS measuring blocks and press the button on that remote and see that the signal IS or is NOT recognized, I had one of those and an *8P0* fob. Neither ever worked, but if its an *8E0* ending in 'R' or 'L' it does. It'd be nice if you did get it working...but I never did using the same process that DID work for the 8E0 remote.

Very interested in the immobilizer programming. Would love to see some screenshots and instructions for that part. I wonder why vag-com can't pull the SKC and this software/device can.

Just 1 question about that. Did you need your current, working, transponder key present in order to program the new one? Or could you have started the car with just vag-com, key reader, and the newly cut ebay key?

I'm the author of the DIY referred to in post #8 above. Obviously, the procedure I outlined for synching the keys worked for me. The other DIY referred to above gives the proper key part #'s that will work on the B6. I'd check your key against this list.

Very interested in the SKC reader. I'd like to be able to program more keys. I'd also like to try and see if I can get a color cluster I have to work in my car. I know you need the SKC to reprogram the cluster with the existing mileage from the old cluster. Perhaps diagnosticator can chime in here?

To program the buttons on the key fob you will need original key and new key no vag-com needed. for immobilizer you you need more tools as you already know and have done it.
    Back to the first part.

To program the remote functions on a new key, get in your car with the car off and the driver side window rolled down.

insert the new key into the ignition

insert your vallet key in the driver side door lock (outside the car)

turn the vallet key towards lock and hold it there

while it is held towards lock, press the unlock button on your new remote for
    2 seconds.

    let go

press it again for 2 seconds

let go and you should hear an alarm honk or something like that.

This is from memory so it may not be right. I would recommend searching web a little more.

All the tools generally work the same- but Ross Tech purposely doesn't include Eeprom reading and writing functions in their tools because people can really mess stuff up. And the ability to read the SKC and adapt the Immo system is something only the dealer and some high-end locksmiths have legitimately. The tools you get for $50 or $100 from china are 100% Pirated and sometimes don't work at all. Someone from Ross tech may chime in..they're everywhere!
And I think Ross Tech, being a legitimate company prefers to operate on U.S. soil, and offering a tool that allows anyone to roll their odometer back and meddle with immobilizer functions would get them in trouble I think. In china..I don't think anyone cares...seeing as how you can buy an Iphone in a vending machine.

As for programming the key, you usually just need 'all' the keys you want programmed, so if you have extras, do them all at once- at least that's how VCDS typically works. If you just try and do one new key, you usually just have that one key adapted..meaning all keys must be adapted each time you adapt ANY key. BUT! Some of these programs have a button that says "make key", you click it and you're done, new key adapted. So, yes, if you can manage to adapt one new cut key that has a proper chip then you can start the car.
