    Cheapest Test Pipe?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm in the market for a test pipe and have done some searching, the cheapest I can find (non eBay) is the ECS testpipe for $159 including hardware. Seems like a decent deal to me! Is this the cheapest out there?

EDIT: Forgot to ask, does anyone know the diameter of the ECS pipe? Will it cause me any problems to bolt a 3 inch test pipe to the smaller stock downpipe?

it'll bolt up. a test pipe is a test pipe. they're all hollow pipes with O2 bungs welded in them.

Buy and OEM cat and take a drywall screw and hallow that badboy out. Then you still have your old cat for smog purposes and cops cant tell the difference under the hood. Im selling my gutted cat btw.

Ya, I got the one that ecs sells... a lot of companies sell that particular model. I bought it elsewhere and it the o2 bungs were welded in the wrong spots so I had to ship it back to california and wait 2 weeks with my car torn apart to get a refund to buy a different one. I ended up buying the vmr one with the heatshield that they sell on ebay. I love it and a lot of people have had good luck with it.

I understand they are all just pipes, but wont there be a size difference between a 3 inch test pipe and the 2.5 inch (I think) stock downpipe? Even if they bolt up flush wont there be a portion of the 3 inches blocked by the smaller diameter downpipe? will this cause turbulence or excessive backpressure?

There are no emissions testing here in Newfoundland, visual or electronic. The cops dont know a test pipe or a cat from a hole in the ground. Thank god haha

Thats another reason why when they offered me another 3" pipe I asked for a refund so I could buy a 2.5" to mate up to my 2.5 downpipe.

Thanks! do I just email don at vmr? I dont see a phone number or anything. I believe I saw a VMR pipe that started out at 3" and at the end tapered to 2.5". I'll have to ask about it.

Can you school me on how a J-bung stops the check engine light from being thrown up?

Its just like running a spark plug non-fouler on the second o2 sensor. I'm not 100% percent sure on the actual scientific way it works but I think it tricks the o2 sensor into thinking the cat is still functioning properly even though there is no catalyst in the pipe. That is the only duty of the secondary o2 sensor, unlike the first one which monitors the engines exhaust to make sure the A/FR is in spec.

J-bung worked for my 034 hi flow cat. Not quite the flow of an empty pipe, but no problems. Now that I'm Eurodyne stage 2, I'm getting a slow response code from the secondary O2 sensor, but that's a different story.

You running a test pipe? Eurodyne stage 2 has cat delete coding, but there's a heat circuit too. So when I take out the spacer and clear the code, I should be fine. But if your bone stock with just the test pipe, you may want to replace that sensor...

Not cheapest, but I'm running the evolution racewerks 3->2.5" test pipe. Best design by far by mating up to the turbos 3" outlet and downpipes 2.5" inlet.

Yeah I think so, when the code is picked up it causes the check engine light to illuminate.
