OK, so im about to sell all my stage 3 goodies ive been piling up and start building a vr6. I have a few questions. Who are good shops to get parts from and good advice along the way? What am I looking at spending? Also what will I need to make myself to get this to work. Any info would be great.

It will get expensive really really quick but 034 has alot of parts.

You will need the motor mounts/cradle for the vr6 and also the adapter so you can mate your 01e to the vr6. Do you have a 12v or 24v?

I read through that and didn't find all the info I thought would be in there. I mean does anyone make downpipes, turbo lines, intercooler piping etc.

Why do a vr6 swap when you can do a tial R770 build? Seems like a no brainer to me

^ that can be acquired on the 2.7 for cheaper than doing a vr6 swap.

I'd just go single turbo or tial 770s on a built motor. Both will cost less than a VR build and work just as well at that power level. Way less custom work this way and the weight isn't moved over the front axles even further.

For about $15K you could do a single hta86 setup on a built 2.8L...Or you could just sell your car and buy a 996 with the $20k+ you're gonna dump into a nice VR build.

I just like the fact I don't have to pull the motor to change turbos and when I'm used to that power I plan on throwing on a bigger turbo. I just want something different. From what I've seen it can be done for around 11-12k.

i was in the same boat as you, trying to debate which way to go. pm NYCVR6, email chris green, and ask them all the questions you have, as well as what to expect. both of them told me its an extremely involved build and the furthest thing from a plug and play. you can do a single turbo build, make room for a BAT up top that you can change out relatively quickly on your 2.7..

that being said, i still have a longing for a BAT VR6 as well...

To build a car like mine (650whp first trip to the dyno), it will cost you roughly 20K.. As for the downpipes, IC piping and such, all this will have to be custom fabricated for your own application. People who have done the swap have used different intake and exhaust manifolds, so there is no off the shelf parts for these things.. My clutch alone was $4000+, standalone wired and tuned $3000, motor $3000-4000, starter $425, Adapter plate $200, turbo $1800, exhaust manifold $600, fuel system and injectors $2500, Flywheel $850, oil pan $300+, valve cover $200+, and so on and so on... This doesnt include the custom intake manifold, water lines, intercooler piping intercooler, custom mount brackets, custom mounts, etc.... Then after all this, you have a car that will destroy axles, so might as well buy upgraded axles, and rebuild your tranny to make it nice and fresh for that amount of power.. I can add to this list all day with the small expenses i hit here and there.. But, when all said and done, driving this car, i feel pretty confident that it's going to be a real hard car to beat for any 2.7 based builds out there.. The VR's just make so much power.. Im putting cams and supertech valve springs and retainers in now, and going back to the dyno to try to make 750ish whp.. Shouldnt be a problem in my opinion.. I had a 12v vr6 gti making 670whp back in 2004..

Im always willing to help, so hit me up with any specific questions.. Good luck man.

There's a lot of single builds going on right now that should prove a worthy challenge.

Should is the key word.. Ill have to see it to believe it, i havent seen one impressive single turbo build yet.. Not saying it cant be done, but im saying it hasnt been done.. I need to see some track numbers.. We have Chris Green's 12V VR and 034's car, both trapped very close to 150mph.. Not to mention there is only a few cars actually running vr swaps out there, mine not included because i haven't had time for the car... There is a few single turbo builds out there, none that have ran any sort of impressive number.. Id love to see a real fast single turbo 2.7 based build..

Didn't 034 blow through about 2 or 3 motors in their VR swap? Interested to see what they did wrong or what went wrong with those builds.

Im not sure about this, but i wouldnt be surprised. They did make a ton of power.. Around 800+ whp, you start running into problems, especially heads lifting. Im sure Chris Green has popped a motor or few over the years also, after all that is the same motor that came out of his drag Jetta.

VR swaps seem the right direction to go in if you want serious power and less to worry about later on. 1 head vs. 2, 1 turbo vs.2, more working room, sexier exhaust note...
    Enjoy yo self

The dynos I've seen have been impressive. Ringlord was over 500whp on a stock block with lemi'd k03 fueling an a 35r. 034 put down 550whp on a base pump gas tune. You're right that none of them have posted up big numbers yet, but the 2.7 has proven it can take big power pretty well over the years. 45psi on an hta86 by 4500RPM sounds fun to me. It's a cheaper and easier build then the VR. Plus you can run over 650whp on stock head studs on 2.7s without heads lifting.

Hopefully we'll see some fast S4s soon, no matter what motor they're running.

Yea for sure i agree.. Those are dyno numbers though, and can be so skewed. I like trap speeds for proof of power personally.
