Bad master cylinder symptoms - ABS light comes on under pressure -

So last night I bled the brakes using the two men way, and I still got the same spongy feeling on the brake pedal, so I decided I would bleed them by gravity, used 3 quarts of brake fluid and still the same.

I get the spongy feeling, and it's not hard to put the brake pedal to the floor, ABS light comes on when I release the brakes.

Bad master cylinder or air in the system? If the car is not running, the brake pedal feels really tight after pumping it once or twice.

Try cycling the ABS pump using VAG-COM.

I have also found going for a drive and hitting the brakes hard enough to activate ABS helps with the spongy feeling.

I just did the above. After a rotor/pad change I did a brake bleed. Was spongy on the test drive. I hit the brakes on some gravel, which cycled the ABS, then bled then again. Much better now.
