Trash found in intake?!

Hi guys/gals! Newbie here. I haven't posted much, mostly just read through the different threads. With that said I know there are a ton of K&N threads, this is not one....

Saturday, using a DIY from Audizine, I decided to drop in a K&N filter that came from the good people at ECS (thanks guys!) After I removed the top intake hose (not sure the correct name but it sits at the opposite side of this piece ) I was faced with a pile of debris. Something similar to what you would find in a vacuum bag. There was grass, leaves, dirt, dirt, dirt, & three cigarette buds ?? I would have taken a picture but my bro swept it up into a dust pan and trashed it. The piece of intake hose I am referring to has a mesh screen in it. Thank god for this but is this debris normal?? My A4 has 76,000miles, not sure if they replace the air filter with Audi Care but if they do I would think that the dealer would have noted this. A buddy of mine said his A4 once sucked in water and trashed the engine

All in all, the installation went well and all though I can definitely feel/hear a difference in throttle response and turbo spool I think its mostly because now my car can breath

The screen you are talking about is the snow screen. I'm pretty sure it is normal. I have the same problem. I just try to clear it out every so often. I would rather have that screen catch it than my filter. Better chance of getting it out.

I find a lot of leaves and grass clippings in mine every 6 months or so when I check. Here in Ohio, we have an abundance of trees and also a**holes who blow their grass clippings into the street.

As the other's have said, that's pretty much normal if you get a lot of debris on the roads. We've got leaves dropping around here so I'll need to check mine soon. I know there's a thread about it somewhere but you will want to check that filter fairly often if you have enterprising rodents where you park. My filter housing is apparently the local acorn storage depot around this time.

Does anyone have the part number for the mesh screen? The shop that did some repairs on my car forgot to reinstall it.

i recommend leaving the snow screen in there. clean it with every oil change.

When I bought my car I went to clean the airfilter and found a dead baby tarantula in the airbox, made it past the screen and died. And we dont have tarantula's where I live.
