Has there been any conclusion on its effectiveness? Especially you 91 octane people.

It works wonders, but it will eat at your rubber and plastic fuel lines.

....and much simpler. The care and feeding when mixing Toluene on a regular basis was a PIA. I'd still consider it as a diagnostic or experimental tool however. With Toluene at a 114 Octane rating, you can pretty accurately brew up a 93 or 95 or even a 100 Octane tank full to test effect. No race gas option where I live so it was handy way to see the effect on timing pulls. Just add an once per gallon each of Marvel Mystery oil (cleanser) and ATF (lubricant).

It raises motor octane for sure but is harmful to plastic and rubber as others mentioned. I used to run a gallon per tank on my B5S4 but it got so expensive, I just started mixing a gallon of leaded race gas (116 octane) to every tank. No cats of course. Tolulene is pretty nasty stuff and even started to chew away at my VP plastic fuel jug that I stored it in! After seeing that, I stopped using it for good.
