    First mod...exhaust...need suggestions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I haven't done too much research but after owning my 2010 S5 for 6 months I'm ready to start modding. I'd like to start with exhaust and then add rims later on. What is generally accepted as the best exhausts for the S5? Also what about downpipes? What is popular, what do you guys like? Any help appreciated.

I put on AWE catback + downpipes non res and I am very happy with the sound, although quite loud, and the power gain are noticable with the GIAC tune.

do you feel the power gains more in the lower or higher revs? I feel like the S5 could use a little more power in the lower revs

I have AWE catback (no downpipes) on my 2009 S5 Tip with slash/angle ct tips. I had exhaust installed after about 2 yrs of owning the car (jus about a month ago). Very happy with sound, especially during downshift. It is def loud and turns heads. In fact, I am surprised by the level of cabin noise from the exhaust though I read it should mellow a bit after about 1K miles. No buyer's remorse here but suggest you try to ride in a car with tuned exhaust to hear the change from stock. Also, if you go with AWE, you can easily add downpipes should you want more rumble. For me, the catback alone is sufficient.

Does most everyone with AWE go ahead and buy the downpipes as well, or is the AWE without the downpipes a nice enough sound? I drive the S5 to work sometimes (20 miles highway) so I don't want to be droned out on the highway.

A full exhaust system is the way to go then. There is insane drone with the valves but I love the sound. Plus I have the option of going back to stock at the press of a button.

Do your homework. There has been a lot written on the 3 big Audi sites (A5OC & Audiworld) regarding loud drone on the tiptronic. I have the 6 MT with the non-resonated cat back Milltek and it sounds great. At about 2K rpm it is very loud so I keep it down a gear.
