Well, what do you expect when you pit an S5 against more torque, more horsepower, and larger displacement The E39 M5 still has it's presence when it comes to performance I must give it that. i just wish that Audi would formally implement some weight reduction in their models...damn boats on the highway.

haha "damn boats" The weight reduction is coming as Audi has shown in the TT. But I am surprised to how much that old M5 pulls after 55-60mph on you. Doesnt seem right even though it has 45 more rated bhp (but its old!)

The 400chp rwd M5 is putting down a lot more power at the wheels than the 354chp awd S5.

I smoked a '56 Chevy Belair this weekend... It must have had at least a 350 in it, headers, racing everything, super loud... The light turned green and he gunned it, getting a slight advantage off the line since I didn't realize he wanted to race me... I red lined my stock S5 up to about 100MPH and had two or three car lengths on this guy... funny sh*t!

0-60 times are quite different than top end capabilities of each car. The quattro system has everything going for it..and then some when starting from a dig. From a roll, the extra diff and transfer of torque throughout all 4 wheels leads to greater inefficiency and power loss during this transfer. 100% power (observing power loss due to friction) to the rear wheels along with close to 400 lb-ft of torque is hugely advantageous for the M5.
