Need Help 5speed Manual Transmission symptoms

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi there everyone.
Recently I started to experience some issues with my transmission. It is a Audi A4 2002 (B6 model) 1.8t quattro, 148.000 miles, about 50.000 on second clutch .

Clutch and transmission is acting a little weird, When I shift it grind on every single gear (hard shift). Some of you will probably say that I have a bad syncro. Just saying all five gears starting to act like that at the same time. I think it could be the Hydraulics but need more input in this matter. While shifting notice a little vibration on clutch engaging but not slipping. when the car is at stop all gears engage just fine.

    Possible problems:
    Hydraulics (slave and master cylinder)?
    Throw out bearing?
    flex plate?

    Need help.
Not whiling to go to "stealership".

it sounds like maybe your clutch is not disengaging all the way. at the stop lights it goes in easy because there is almost no speed on the clutch/fw. then it gets hard to shift when moving because the flywheel is moving at a good speed.

Update test the clutch paddle return level, it is returning all the way up.

Why is my clutch not disengaging all the way while driving?
    Any input on this?

I would ask if u swapped out ur clutch slave cylinder when u did ur clutch swap. Cheap insurance against this kind of stuff. It also lets u bleed the clutch hydraulics too.

That seems like ur problem right there.

Have not done the clutch yet. car still parked in garage. waiting for tool to arrive.
On the first clutch change was done by an audi dealer and don't know exactly what type of work they did.
So you think it is my slave cylinder is gone bad?

I was reading this thread, the guy had same symptoms and his clutch was broken in pieces.
My clutch is not disengaging all the way. paddle travel is normal. I dont know what to do. Just going to take it apart and see if the clutch is fine.

Well my clutch was completely GONE and I dynoed the car the day b4 upgrading and drove it uphill home and to the shop. It was slipping but didn't know it was THAT bad - no clutch left.

A broken clutch will make noises at least I would hope so. It does on every other car I have noticed a broken clutch on. It does on the guys that break the V70R clutches. It is possible I guess for it to be wedged in there in a way that it does not engage and make no sounds as well.

Have u ordered a clutch slave as a standby for when u go in there?

The clutch is not slipping but it does vibrate on shifting and there is a humming noise coming from undercarriage, I thought that noise could be from the hubs but since this clutch transmission thing, now I think this could be from the broken clutch.
I am taking the clutch apart this weekend and let you know whats going on. ECS is back order. I am getting APR instead.
Any recommendation on the flywheel? Should I resurface my or buy a new one?
    Thank you all so far...

Good news. I now know what the problem is. Bad news is going to cost me a new clutch kit and flywheel.
Flywheel, clutch and flex plate got too hot and is all burnt. On the first clutch replacement the Audi dealer did not change or resurface the flywheel. It is warp pretty bad and all kind of blue and purple shades.
    Post pics soon.
    So sad!!!

Are you OEM clutch and flywheel? My OEM dual mass flywheel came apart on me and i had similar issues. except mine broke all at once and was ALOT more severe.

edit: oops, sorry didnt see you figured it out already. good luck!
