15K service and other problems to be addressed.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just got off the phone with service department, here is the list I gave them:
15,000 mile service and additional problems:
    • Perform 15,000 mile service.
    • Passenger side, L.E.D daytime running lights continue turning more and more yellow and warmer in hue. Driver’s side remains cool crisp white in comparison. Very noticeable at night.
    • Dry, rubbing noise is heard and felt under full lock steering at slow speeds. (Maneuvering in and out of garage)
    • Right front speakers (mid or tweeter) crackle during BT phone conversations.
    • Creaking noise on floorboard under both driver and passenger's feet. (Rock foot back and forth close to under seat)
    • RPM’s sometimes get stuck near redline under hard acceleration and don’t come back down when gas pedal is released. This is while transmission is in D, not sport or tip.
    • In the trunk: the two rails that raise and hold trunk lid open have black plastic covers that always fall off and get lost inside trunk.
    • Sunroof sometimes doesn’t close from the open position. It tries to close but due to some resistance it opens back up.
    • Car tends to pull to the right.
    • Tires seem to squeal under “not too hard” cornering. Reaching limit prematurely. Are they ok?

She said they will have a Q5 ready as the loaner.

does the car pull to the right even when you're in the left lane? the curve of the road will affect the steering a little bit. mine is pretty straight in the right lane but pulls to the left in the left lane.

as far as the tires go, mine squeals when i'm going into a legit 25mph warning turn and i'm doing 50. actually i slide a tiny bit. also squeals when i'm going into the same turn doing 40 and i have to brake a little bit. it's all about weight transfer. just don't corner while braking. brake first and then corner

as for all the other problems, haven't had them yet. *knock on wood*

I'm taking mine in for 15k on Thursday. So far I've had to repair a tire, my sunroof is a little squeaky on close (never had it not close) and some of the weather stripping on my rear driver side door is loose.

I'm tempted to think the p7's just have a soft side wall and due to not having sport suspension, the body tends to roll too much.
Thus is has something to do with weight transfer. But I'll have the dealer look at it, can't hurt.

P7? They definitely do not have a soft side wall. They stick ok but once they lose grip, they'll squeal like banshees..

I had similar situation. They first replaced switch but the problem continued. They ended up replacing the entire sun roof frame.

Full lock puts a lot of strain on the steering pump, so my question was why you would do that. Thanks for answering the rhetorical question though, I never knew why.

And next time I'll try to follow my own advice since asking a question made me uptight.

I wonder why you asked that too. Didn't know I was only supposed to use 90% of the cars turning ability.

I'm asssuming that your not being sarcastic. When you push a pump to continue to try to push hydraulic fluid through it, the oil starts to cavitate which in turn wears out the pump. (Cavitating is microscopic explosions of air bubbles) No one said 90%, I meant (which I didn't explain) was that when you hit full lock let off a bit to stop the pump from making that straining sound. That's all.

Did you have the slow speed steering wheel stutter TSB done (2020332/6)? Sounds like thats the problem there. They replace a power steering hose to fix the problem.

I also have the low speed shudder/vibration when turning the steering wheel around the full range. I have approx 10600 miles, and didn't bring it up at the 5K service, so I'll ask for that TSB at the 15K service.

Please be aware that most dealers do not stock the updated power steering hose, so I suggest you try and drop by the dealer a week or so before your service appointment so they can verify your claims and order the hose so that it's in stock and ready for you. One way or another, it will likely take two trips to the dealer.

actually, my car is still at the shop. I went to pick it up on Monday and they told me they could not reproduce some of the items on my list. I took the time to reproduce them in front of their eyes so they kept it for another week. I will update as soon as get her pick up on Saturday. Did I mention it's a 2 hour there and 2 hour back drive to the dealer for me?

Ouuuch. I was driving 2.5 hours for service to a mod-friendly dealer during my warranty period, though there's a small Audi dealer in my town that I may or may not use once I hit 50k. I assume 2 hours is the closest dealer to you?

There is another dealer about 30 mins closer but I go to the one that my father and I have been going to for a over a decade. There is something nice about walking in and everyone knowing your name. I got a call from the dealership telling me that the creaking noise from the floor boards is actually coming from the heating vents under the driver and passenger seats. They've wrapped it and I guess that took care of it. We'll see.
