Got my TP in and was thinking I should do some other little stuff before I get my tune done. Not sure if the PCV valve has been done so thought I would replace that. Anyone know where it is, or is it a whole system that needs replacing on this engine?

The PCV is on the top of the 2.0T under the engine cover. Last night, I used a mirror to look under it to discover if mine was updated to the E version, since my car is the later VIN. L is the early VIN update.

Its the black piece with the circle, its on top of the engine on the passenger side.. pretty easy to see, just remove the engine cover

if you are going through the trouble of replacing the pcv, you might as well do a catch can instead

I never quite understood this. Does this basically mean if it's a 2005.5 it's an early vin, if it's a 2008 it's a late vin, and if it's in between it's one or the other?

Anywho, at 85k you should replace it either way just to be safe... or upgrade to BSH catch can if you're not under warranty.

I figured it out last week. All models from VIN #6-165001 and later require the updated E version of the PCV, split is only in model year 2006. For example; my A4 was built March 2006. The last 6 digits on my VIN are 229110. 229110 comes after 165000, so I need the E version. 2007, 2008 also require the E version, I assume. The 2005.5 and early 2006 models must be a little different, so they'll run crappy unless they use the L version. Of course, non of it makes sense, especially since E comes before L.

    Ballz,
When you chip the car you put more stress on the engine. So before doing so most people will upgrade the common failure points, mainly the DV, PCV, and Cam follower. However, even on a stock engine these could all use the upgrade. If you're chipped, the chances are your DV diaphram will tear, the PCV will blow and leak oil, and the cam follower.. well that just gets worn out no matter what. Hope this helps.

Well, I've been driving mine like this since it was new and now at 25K miles. How would I know if any of these is damaged. Would the dealer have seen it during scheduled maintenance?

I just had mine replaced last week at my 35k service. There's an Audi TSB (#2015505) from a while back about the issue.
