    Changing CV Joints

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I tried the search and could not find what I was looking for. I changed oil yesterday and found boots ripped on both inner cv joints, so I'll be replacing asap.

Is there a link that describes changing the half shafts? I think I'm going to purems for the half shafts.

    Thanks.

You don't need to fool with the pinch bolt. Just jack up the suspension all the way and cut the wheel to the opposite side that you are replacing. The inner joints are held on by snap rings which you can get the tool for at Autozone if you don't have one. And I highly advise to just cleaning and regrease/rebooting your OEM joints vs going with aftermarket replacements.

just replaced my inner boot on my 00 s4. it was really easy and this was my first time doing it. remove cv shaft, remove grease, remove snap ring that keeps the joint attached to the shaft (be careful to keep the joint from extending, keeping it together) tap off the metal peice attached to the boot that sits on the joint, slide off the torn boot, (i removed all old grease, i dont know if it was necessary but im anal, slide on new boot, filled it with the supplied grease from the cv boot kit, put the joint back on the shaft, line up the holes of the metal peice attached to the boot with the joint, tap the metal piece of the boot to the joint, apply the snap ring holding the joint to the shaft and then gently apply and pack grease to the inside of the joint. i know the most technical person with terms. thats how i did it, and was taught to do it. Hope this helps. plan on getting greasy, wear gloves and have lots of rags on hand. goodluck.

Darn, just read your responses. I have already ordered new half shafts. One of the original joints is squealing. Thanks for the feedback.
