    Audi RNS-E Sharkfin GPS Antenna

    Tools: Drill
    1/16” drill bit
Step bit must go larger than ¾”
    Silicon (just to be safe)
    Painters tape
    SMALL nail
    Hammer

    Time: 60min

    People: 2

    Tools

Removed rear passenger light to expose hole where antenna should be mounted. Now I didn’t measured anything I just eyeballed where I thought the center was. Then I placed the nail in the center and gave the hammer a few taps while my g/f pushed lightly down on the roof to not cause any dents. Once a small indentation appeared on the roof I them moved to the drill.

At this point me and my helper switched positions. I started to dill where the indentation was on the roof while she pushed from the inside of the car so the roof again would not dent.

After I got the small hole drilled I made sure it was centered. Again I just eyed it lol. Then I moved on to the step bit. I’m pretty sure the hole is exactly 3/4”. This was a perfect fit for the antenna with no left to right or front to back movement. At this point I applied silicon all around the outer rubber base of the antenna and a ton right around the screw.

I placed the antenna down while my helper stood in front of the car and told me if it was straight. One person then pushed lightly on the antenna while the other screwed the bolt on from the inside of the car.

And here is the finished product. I have not run the wires yet and I did this without removing the headliner. To run the wires for your RNS-E you’ll have to remove parts of the headline, and A B pillar trim pieces.

Well there is and there isn't. There isn't one on the metal roof itself but in the pic below you can see there is a hold cut out of the cardboard liner to give you a good idea of where it should be mounted. I just assumed the center of that cardboard was the center of the roof and I was correct (at least I think I am). And yes I did add the blades to the car a few weeks ago. Hopeful if everything goes well i'll have all the lowers painted before winter.

no, regular radio antenna is not connected to sharkfin

This is not always true. There is 2 different types of all antennas that are mounted on the roof of any vw or audi. one with 2 plugs and one with 4. The one with 4 (the one I have) dose do am/fm, sat, nav, and telephone.

Dude you will love it out this way. I love that the new Kroger Marketplace is like a mile away from my place. Our house value has gone up since we got it since all that new stuff is going in on Lewis Center and 23.

So I wonder if they make a convertor to run that instead of the crapy one that cracks for all that. One day after engine build I will have to pick on of these Nav units.

the GPS extension cable that I have will plug on any of the connectors so if you connected the right one and ran it to the front of the car I dont see why it wouldn't work.

anyone have links to the plug with 4 connectors and the extensions as well?

  20. #20
The extension cable that I ordered from euro-parts.us will connect to all the connecters coming off the sharkfin. It seem to be just a universial extension.

Also through some further digging I think the skarfin still might not do AM/FM. It seem that in europe there was an option for a 'remote engine heater' which might be the 4th pulg in the sharkfin.

And just and FYI the bolt size for the sharkfin is a 22mm.

I'd like to bump this thread up as my car is in the shop and I'm trying to get the body shop to do a flawless install of this for me because I want it perfect as it came from the factory and to NEVER have any chance of leaking, i'm really OCD. So anyways.

Can someone with a 2005 USP please measure the distance from the back of the sharkfin antenna to the rear window????????????then I would just need to center it for a perfect factory mount.

    TIA
