Dragstrip with APR 93 oct 6MT!! Pics!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well, after all the dragstrip treads I decided to bring my APR tuned B8 S4 to Island Dragway (NJ) today. The car has 9100 miles on it, 6 speed, with about 600 miles on the tuned ECU. Was running full weight (nothing removed) with about 3/8 tank of 93 octane. Air temp about 65 degrees. I have to say, after the first pass I was a little disappointed and was ready to sell my car for a CTS-V ;). One ran a mid 11 right before me...lol. I launched the car around 3k and it bogged down pretty bad, I also bounced off the rev limited from first to second (which I believe is still at 7200rpm...) ran a 13.07 @ 109.43 mph. My second run was a little better. Launched a little higher around 3500 rpm, but the car still bogged down..plus I hit the limiter again from 1-2. Ran a 12.84 @ 110.73 mph. The last run I launched at 4000 rpm, barely bogged down at all, all good shifts, and ran 12.70 @ 110.73mph. All in all I am pretty happy with the tune, and think I will be able to get 12.5x out of it on 93 oct if I can get the launch right and bring my 60' down. Problem is now I wanna go faster...lol

sobz, Very nice man! Glad someone with a 6-speed got some passes! Look at the slips and let me know what time you made passes if you don't mind... Looks like the DA was probably about 1500+ on a 515 elevation track... Corrected your looking at a low 12.6 at 111.4 or so.... Also, any idea on the weight of your wheels vs stock 19's? I assume they are a few lbs lighter.... What is the highest rpm you can launch at? I believe it is 4500RPM? That would probably give you a slight spin and better 60 and net you a12.5x.... How did you leave the line? Dump the clutch, slip it, etc? Sorry just trying to get an idea.... Again, nice passes and thanks for taking the time to do this.... later Ron

    1st run - 11:11am
    2nd run - 11:56am
    3rd run - 1:38pm

I believe the wheels themselves weigh 21.37 lbs. each... not sure how much stock 19s are.

Next time I plan to launch at 4500rpm. I think that will have the best results.

First run I think I slipped it and second two I think I dumped it...lol

Awesome Sobz! Good showing. It can only get better with some more launch practice. Let's see if you can get that thing in the 12.6x's.

    nice..gives me hope.

my buddies mazda speed with a few mods does 13.4 with a few boltons without a engine tune. Would be embarrassing if I was to spend 60k on a S4 and be slower than a Mazda.

With no LC, that is not exactly a forgone conclusion - granted it might be overall, but you have to validate this statement with a distance, since the 6MT will launch at a higher RPM and definitely make 60' faster, maybe even the 1/8th mile, but eventually I feel the faster shifting will make that distance up.

Not a chance.... If my car was a 6-speed I would cut 1.6x 60's all day... that is going to happen with the DSG unless we get launch control or more power down low...

There isn't enough data/samples to prove your point.... My point is that a car that can leave the line at 4K+RPM will get better 60foot times than a car that leaves at idle... I don't recall seeing any of the magazines testing DSG's do you have a link? My times are also better since I am running the 100 octane tune.... I have no idea how good you can drive and never inferred anything in reference to your driving ability.... What times have you run and with what mods?
