    Cam timing issues!!!!!help!!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
just finished putting together my 2001 s4.
Had some typical oil leaks. So I replaced all the seals on top end .
Passenger side went really quick . No issues.
But Driver side wasn't as easy.
    timing chain fell off .
So I reset it after finding some info on line.
Don't have tool so it was pain..
Marks on both cam lined up perfectly.
After I put it all together car starts up and runs like crap . Huge misfires on driver side . And ticking noise .
Please help with pics how to reset cam timing.
I read about 16 links on PS bank and 14.5 -15 DS.
    Thanks

did exactly what picture and description says . Set exhaust cam right at the mark.
Install vw/audi tool on tensioner. Wasn't able to skip chain. removed cams with tensioner and reset it .
I was two pins off. So I set it exactly at 15.5.
put it all together start it up and what , the same shi..............t .
Huge misfires on bank 2. And ticking noise just likd valve is slightly touching piston.
I spun engine by hand before starting it up. No interference at all. Spins with compression.
I will talke high resolution pictures tomorrow ,
Any more help or advice. I need to get that think running is my daily driver.
Does any body has OEM service manual.
    HELP
    thanks

driver side is really tricky. take the valve cover off again, use a cam tensioner tool, and take off cam caps on the intake manifold. turn intake cam one tooth toward the exhaust cam. only do this if you are using a cam lock bar to be sure the cams and motor are both at tdc when you do it.

why two teeth? if it was off that much, then you have a greater issue. either you're really not qualified to time it in the first place, or your tensioner is bad and its jumping teeth.

I set it up on marks , without counting chain links.
I didn't now about that dump rule.
So after counting links I was two links off. Chain on top of the tensioner was to long.
There is no problem with tensioner because There was no issue before I took it apart.
you can install chain two teeth to long on top tensioner will take care of chain slack .
Hate that fricking set up .
1973 v12 ferrari daytona without marks is easier to set !!!!than this junk

cyl number 5 exhaust valves bent.
How it happened I think I know.
Rebulid 30 + engines in my life never messed up on timing.
This is my first time .
How it happened. When I set cams before removing them I marked them with yellow paint. One of the paint marks moved when I had it all on the bench , yes it slid about 45 degrees. So after placing cams I started bolting down caps and valves started to open pressing at the same time against piston.
Leak down test shows 90% leak.
So head comes off tomorrow and new valves will be installed.
    Great
I took some pics today just to confirm that I have them right now at the right spot

Ok so car is still not together , but valve issues were solved.
I install new exhaust valves and all the parts that go with it.
Now just waiting for new set of tensioner sliders.
    Why audi doesn't sell them?
Piston is perfect , little two scratches on it ,
    couple pics
Now I just confirmed that car has K04 on it.

    Nice valves
