    Stasis Coilover question.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have Stasis coilovers on my car that came with the car when I bought it used. My battery died and I had to remove what I believe to be the dampers to get the battery out. When I removed the damper the braided line connected to it was not tight and it ended up leaking oil out.

I looked on Stasis' site but could not find any information so I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right directoin. I've attached a photo of the cylinder that I believe to be the damper for the front coilovers. Can someone please confirm this is for the coilovers and if so could someone please tell me how/what oil is used in it?

Sorry for the newb question. The car is new to me and tha parts were already on the car.

The gold cylinder is the part in question.

I'm not sure I totally understand you're question, but the gold dampener is a remote resovoir for the Motorsport coilovers. It allows for better fluid cooling and easier external adjustments, and is hooked right up to the damper.

I know this isn't the most helpful picture, but this is what they look like off the car:

The banjo nut was loose. Call Stasis and ask them what you should do.

Thanks for the replies! I was hoping it would be a quick easy fix but sounds like its a bit more involved than just adding oil to the dampener. I'll be giving Stasis a call on Monday. Thanks again

do NOT add oil to them, all shocks like these have a predefined oil level/air gap in them. Depending on how much you lost will determine next steps. If it's just a few drops, don't worry about it, make sure it's tight and move on. anymore and you'll probably need to pull them off and send them in for a service.

You should just get rid of them, I'll take them off your hands if you need the help. ;)

Oh but it has a carbon fiber cover and that adds like 20HP right? I'm not a fan and the car had it on when I bought it...It will be coming off it's just a matter of time.

Yeah it lost a lot of oil so I'll be sending them back for service. Probably not a bad idea anyway since I don't know the when they were put on the car and how many miles they have on them.

Yeah the Stasis Ohlins are terrible man J/K. I've owned several Audi/VW and this by far handles the best. I can even stick to the bumper of my buddies Gallardo in the twisties which just puts a great big smile on my face.

Tighten all the bolts where the lines meet the reservoir and shocks. You shouldbe fine if only a few drops came out. If more than a few drops came out, I would take off both fronts and have them serviced as you're gonna have to get them serviced anyways in a short time if they've never been done.

You're supposed to have them serviced every year.

Put the canister back in place and tighten the banjo bolt. If you didn't discharge the canister (100psi+ of nitrogen) you'll be just fine as long as it didn't leak all too much. Routinely loosen that banjo bolt to change the angle at which the hose arrives at the canister for flexibility in mounting, never causes an issue.

I talked to Stasis this morning and I'm sending both fronts in to have them rebuilt. The dampeners have to go in with the coilovers. I appreciate everyones input/help.

Haha I had to make a simple battery replacement job into a project.
