    Crappy ass plastic

For the past few days I've noticed that I lost ~ 2 in Hg of vacuum when at idle. It was a nice day today so I decided to poke around under the hood and see if I could find the culprit. It didn't take long. The piece of crap plastic dip stick tube was broken into two sections about half way down. I fixed it for now with good 'ol duct tape. Guess I'll be picking up a new one on Monday. So many of these have been reported broken that it's probably a good idea to go ahead and replace yours before it splits. Cheap enough insurance.

Old Guy, would the oil cooler hose if it was leaking or not sealed properly would that cause a vacuum leak? The one from the crankcase into the oil cooler.

I assume you are referring to the block vent host that plugs in above the oil cooler. If it isn't sealed properly it can let in excess air through the crankcase breather valve and act like a vacuum leak. Normally at idle the air is metered into the block via the PRV (pressure regulating valve) on the back of the valve cover (or the TIP on an '02). The excess air will cause a slight drop in vacuum at idle. Pretty much the same thing that occurred with my broken dip stick tube.

    Yes that hose.

Than that must be a part of my vac leak. Under positive pressure (boost) would that act like a leak too? Currently it is just rigged up with heater hose into the block vent host and ever since than, boost seems to be much slower.

I tend to break them every time when doing an alternator on a TT or a coolant block plug on an A4. If you notice the new dipstick tube is an orange color and when that orange turns to yellow the tube will break with almost any movement.

I also tend to break the plastic crankcase breather line on the bottom of the Y tube at the back of the valve cover a lot.

Audi's cheap plastics suck for these engines.

Hahaha! You drove a lawn mower before?

Honestly, if my next car has a turbo, I'm chipping/tuning it within 24 hours of purchasing it. It's such a huge difference. Me and another member were testing out his car after a coilpack replacement and I told him floor it. 10 seconds later I was like, "... I said floor it", he's like "I am!". Turns out he was on stock tuning. I felt bad for him after that. The end.

As long as your check valves and block breathers are functioning properly this should not exhibit as a boost leak. Those valves will prevent a boost signal from reaching the block. it will only mimic a vacuum leak.

So am I correct in assuming you have deleted everything except the lower block breather tube and you have that connected to the upper breather tube and dumping from there? If this is the case then it should not cause a boost leak or a vacuum leak.
