Anyone ever try and trade out tires?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I purchased a 2011 Audi A4 with sports suspension in late July 2010. I should have looked into what tires were on the vehicle, but I would have never guessed Audi would put summer tires on a quattro sold in Colorado. After reading up a bit, it sounds like due to the rubber compound, when it starts getting really cold out, the tires will be like hockey pucks.

I realize I could purchase snow tires, but I would rather go with all season tires if the price is right.

What do you guys think my chances of taking it to a place like Discount Tire and seeing if they will exchange, without me getting taken?

I was looking at the Michelin Pilot A/S Sport Plus ($220) or the Conti DWS ($152) at tirerack. As a side note, the Pirelli Cinturato P7 is $370 a tire. Realizing the P7's on my car have 1300 miles on them, any thoughts?

    Thanks.

Save those for the summers. and get a nice set of snows.. cant beat that combo
    Best regards,
    Sean.

Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone
bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.

    What's wrong with hockey pucks
Have you looked at Bridgestone all seasons? I've been quite satisfied with them.

+1 you won't regret it and you probably would not get good value trading or selling the summers

I don't think Discount Tire will want your old tires, not their business model.

However, the internet is always your friend for selling stuff. See if there are any businesses locally that purchase used wheels and tires. Places like this do exist.

no shop is going to "trade" tires with you. just go find a set of used 17s for like 150 and get snow tires put on them.

I used the P7's all winter ('09/'10) and drove through some VERY bad blizzards and they performed beyond my expectations.
I know the Quattro played a big part in it too but not once did the car feel out of control. Keep in mind average speed during
conditions like this was around 10mph, not regular HW speeds.
I'm going to the dealer next week for the 15,000 mile service and will take a look at the health of the tires before deciding to buy winters
or go one more winter with the P7.
I will be buying summer wheel and tire package by the summer and keep the 17's as a winter kit.

Where did you get them for $135 a tire??? ... the cheapest I have seen is tirerack @ $150 plus $15 for shipping and an additional $15 for mounting locally per tire.

My girlfriend just got these on her 330ci. Can't say how they are in the snow yet, but they are very smooth, very quiet, and grip very well. A great tire, but again, can't speak of snow.

    +1 Most likely not.

But there's always Craigslist - hang on to them til the spring and sell them when people are looking to take of their winter boots.
