5-Speed Transmissions (B5) interchangeable regardless of Code?

After hours of searching, I received conflicting feedback. I need someone that knows whether or not B5 5-Speed transmissions are interchangeable regardless of transmission codes. If the gear ratios are a bit different, that is fine, as long as it is a direct bolt-in.

I ask because I have an ENP transmission (rare and expensive), and I want to put in a DWR (abundant and more inexpensive).

Can you give more info on what the ENP came out of? Generally, yes, they are interchangable. I have swapped several B5 1.8t trans. with B5 2.8 trans, and they were a direct bolt-on.

ENP is the 5-Speed that can come in the 2000 & 2001 1.8T AWD

yup, all b5 manual trannys are interchangeable as far as bolting in. the ratios are different but they will all bolt up to the engine,axles and driveshaft. 2.8 and 01 axles are different on the hub side but are the same on the trans side.

if it's out of a 2000 or 2001 it certainly will bolt up. BTW my 2000 1.8t had a DWR, and I put in an O1E 6-speed, but that is a whole differnt animal.

For clarification - the rear diff will be 100% o.k. with the "different" transmission? (DWR's different ratio than ENP)

So the ratios in all 1.8T B5 transmissions are the same? I take it my differential will have no idea what 5-speed I put in there, as long as it's a 1.8T, regardless of code.

Your diff wont see any difference, even if you put a 2.8 trans in there. they all have a 3.89 final drive

For future reference, I swapped them out today. 100% interchangeable.
