    Just started hearing a whistle at low rpm's, below 3k. *I hear it best in 2nd& 3rd gear. *I think it happens in all gears but i think because of wind, engine/ exhaust & road noise, it is more noticeable when going slow in 2nd or 3rd gear. Basically, I can hear the noise best when I am cruising around 30mph in 3rd gear, I let off on the gas and coast, then I will just barely apply the gas and i hear the whistle. If I hold my acceleration to about 2700 rpms i can keep the whistle constant. *It doesnt sound like the turbo, it sounds more like vacuum. *I dont have a cel, my boost gauge is not indicating a leak, and i have no loss of power. *Any thoughts?

    vacuum leak at suction jet pump. that what it was for me. a new one is like $35 from gvwaparts

    Possible boost leak. I had a problem couple of months ago. One of the check valves went bad. Changed that particular one, and then another one went bad so I changed all of them. I thing a total of 4 or 5, I can not remember the exact count. I hope that this helps.

    The only thing is that my boost gauge is still between 19-20 at idle.

    Ok it isn't rpm specific. If I hold the throttle steady so that vacuum stays at 15, the whistle is constant. If I give it more gas or let off, the whistle goes away.

    Does it sound like a siren kinda when revs go up n down? I know my b5s turbo has 296k miles and it sounded like this for like 2 years now. Its almost dead but still works.

    my friend has a protege5 and his car whistles so loud it sounds like it has a turbo.. but louder.

    lol mine sounds like a dentist drill but doesn't leak oil on either side and it has no shaft play. It also holds 20 psi no problem.

    I dont think its the turbo. I'm thinking its a hose that is only leaking under load.

    What DV are you running with? I recommend you check the DV, especially if a diaphragm type.

    well i got to the turbo, the fins are fine and no shaft play.. no leaks found along the way. dv is lubed and works perfect. i cant figure out why my car sounds like a jet engine when in partial throttle. and then i hear a whistle whenever i floor it or shift gears. also, i just noticed that when my ac or my heater is on, my boost gauge still shows me idling at 19 inhg's. iirc, when the heater or ac was on inhg's would be around 15-16. i wonder if my problem has to do with my kombi valve or sai pump. cuz when im at partial throttle, i get that jet engine like sound that you hear from the sai pump during a cold start. any ideas?

    Hey diztek I have the same issue. Do you have a TIP or M Trans? Im TIP, and Im suspecting the pump on drivers side fender between the H/L and the coolant res. When I do a boost leak test I whistle some. I just didnt know if its supposed to do that under heavier boost loads than stock.

    Ends up being from a cracked exhaust housing on the turbo. Ko4 replaced and whistle noise is gone.

    Huh, I just replaced mine. Funny thing is that it didnt do it till I got my FMIC in, I think jaja. I gotta do some diggin in there and see what I come up with, but thanks for the reply Diz.

    Np. Took me forever to find out. I replace my ic (leaking from end tank) whistle still there. Replaced leaky tip, whistle still there. Finally I pull the turbo out and found the problem. All of these problems did not indicate a boost leak on my boost gauge either.

    Wow thats nuts! Did you have any kind exhaust leak or tick at all?

    Mines really only does it under hard accelaration, and when I let off the gas, I get like this higher piched whistle when the DV opens.

    heavy load is like wooooooo sound and letting off I get a fringgggg sound, LOL, thats what it sounds like!

    Oh ya, also replaced a flex pipe that leaked. No ticking, everything was normal except for the whistle noise that was constant pre-boost.

    I'm sure my turbo was working a lot harder than it should have, which probaby caused the failure.

    alright cool I guess Ill look into it a little more. I do have this small exhaust leak on the downpipe it may just be that with all the air flow I have now I ll check it out tommorrow. Get back to ya with what ever i find.

    hey Diz I found my issue bro. I had two couplers leaking boost on my FMIC setup. I tightend all of them up and no more whistle bro.
