    Window regulator or something else?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Having a couple issues with the windows on the B6.

First- Driver side switch will not lower or raise passenger side window.

Second - Driver side window was making a grinding noise and acting weird. Now is not able to go up or down at all.

Thoughts? Regulator for driver side? What about the passengeer side not going up or down with the driver side switch?

    Thanks for any help!

The grinding is the regulator. It's an easy fix, a little tedious, but easy. There is a write up in the b6 forums. I did mine and took about 2 hours with zero headaches.

The other side seems to be a motor. The motor is more expensive but easier to replace then the regulator.

^They have the cheapest regulator prices I've found.

My window regulator started to make a crunching noise and had a hard time (almost stutter stepping) when trying to raise the window up. Going down was no problem. Once you hear that crunching noise, keep your windows rolled up until you buy yourself a replacement window regulator. Mine were replaced under extended warranty from the factory. From what I've heard, window regulator failure is common among Audi's. (I wonder why they haven't focused on making them any better.)

What you're hearing is the cable coming off the pulley. Mine made noise for a short time before it went south.
