    abnormal creaking noise...

I have this creaking noise coming from the front end of my 99 A4 2.8 quattro. It makes a loud creak everytime I either press the brake pedal or from a take off. It also creaks when I hit big bumps. To me it sounds like it's coming from the suspension but I just replaced all of the control arms in the front end. I'm thinking maybe it's the upper strut mount bushing? Anybody else ever come across this noise?

Here is a video of me hitting the brakes with the creaking noise.

    Thanks

    Wow that's pretty hardcore

It would make sense that a strut is not functioning properly, given the noise under the mentioned circumstances. ...but thats pretty loud for a bushing, it sounds like one or more of the strut bolts are not fully secure. (Which I'm sure you've checked, given their easy of view)

Does it do it if you just bounce the car up and down in the parking lot? Like if you push on the bumper, like you are checking the shocks? If it does, that would make it easier to find. Just have someone bounce the car while you put your hand of the different suspension components. Just be careful.

I was thinking maybe something to do with the front sway bar. Like it squeaking as it moves/rotates in it's bushings. Your noise is pretty loud, though. It sounds more serious than that.

I actually ordered a set of coilovers yesterday because I've been planning to do that anyway so if it's a bad strut it's getting replaced next weekend. I haven't had a chance to bounce the car up and down (didn't even think about that actually). I've been putting this off for awhile, first it started out as clunk and now it changed to a creak.

I'm having a similar issue in the rear suspension, but after installing new coils and struts, it's still there. that's because it's the upper control arms. the bushings are worn/hardened and must be replaced.
    check that out, too.
