I have a chance to trade my A4 for an S4 (with some cash on top ofcorse)

The S4 is completely unmolested, not even a chip, and it sits at 160k miles.

The owner doesnt know if the turbos have been done, Or if the clutch has been done. its possible the P/O did it but he isnt sure.

Rear wheel bearings and valve covers replaced recently. Also timing belt / waterpump done.

My main concern is getting this car and having the turbos and or clutch go on me. Is it possible to have a car at 163K miles with strong STOCK turbos and clutch? I want reliability in an S4. Am i getting myself into a nightmare?

Won't happen, at least not in most S4's. Don't do the trade unless your ready to drop a few G's at once to repair something. Turbos being the biggest money, but don't look past other things. 160K on stock Ko3's isn't unheard of, but it's a bit high and would cause me to worry.

im on stock turbos with 150k...take it for a test drive to see if you can hear the dentist. might also depend on how the previous owner drove it...

oh, and im also on stock clutch :) but my car is prolly a rare case...cus she runs like a dream.

Same with me man, 145k on stock Ko3's and clutch. [Knocking on wood... :) ]

ill definitely hit you up when i find one i want to go look at, it would be great to have someone who knows S4's along. I have only seen 1-2 in pittsburgh period!

Im thinking im going to pass on this one though. I really want to find one that has turbos and clutch done. At that mileage, i think im going to have to do both within the next 20k. I really want nogaro/imola/casa white. Thanks for the input guys, I think ill hang in there till i find what i want.

Nah, not necessarily...I've known a number of older people who drive these cars that don't know a thing about them...they just take their cars to the dealerships, pay out the a$$, and drive on.
