    2007 RNS-E & iPhone 4 not connecting... am I an idiot?

So I just bought a used 07 S4 with RNS-e, loaded with everything. Anyhow, I'm trying to set up my iPhone 4 via Bluetooth and either I'm a total dumbass or it simply won't work. I turned the car on, went into setup, assigned the PIN my #, turned on my iPhone's Bluetooth and it doesn't detect anything.

On a side note, I noticed under the armrest when you open it up it looks like there's some sort of metal connector thing there but with nothing connected to it? Was is that!?!

my iphone4 never connects, my iphone3 did.

the thing in the armrest was a charger for a carphone.

The OEM unit works with the iphone 4.
maybe your rns-e has too many phones stored, and has to be reset.

Hmmm...you really shouldn't have a problem. Mine connects fine 90% of the time, and occassionly it's slow to connect.
Can't remember exactly the steps go but if I were you I'd try having the phone on and bluetooth on first.

On a side note, my 4 also connect no problem to a B8 loaner. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Prior to ios4.1, if you had BT and wi-fi on at the same time it'd drop the BT connection everytime a new wi-fi access point was found. I don't know if it prevented the pairing process though.

I'm going off of memory, but if I'm remembering right you can only pair new phones within the first couple of minutes that the RNS-E turns on. Go to the BT screen on the iphone, so that it's searching for new devices, turn your car on and wait. The audi BT unit should show up after ~30sec and then you select it and enter your pin.

Dumb question but you've verified that you've got a BT module attached to the RNS-E yeah?

The contacts in the arm rest are for phone holders that charge the phone and connect the phone to the car antenna. They are available to fit different phones but are only available in Europe, I have one for my 3Gs. Had a shop that imports from Germany get it for me.

Read the manual and follow it to the "T". The rnse detects the phone upon turning it on. It's a finicky system and won't really work unless you follow the manual.

Ok, I got it. Within a few minutes the RNS-e will put BT to sleep if it doesn't detect anything. I downloaded a copy of maps 09-10 and installed it first, then wiped all the previous users data and reset the radio to default settings. Maybe that is why is was so difficult. I had to turn radio on/off a few times as well as BT on my iPhone and eventually it paired. PITA though.
