help - tiny oil leak pass side

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a silver dollar size oil leak that accumulates after I take my car out for a drive. The leak is coming down on the passenger side, if you drew a straight line to the ground from between the + and - battery terminals, just behind the front axle.. TIA

i mean, the location of the puddle is on the ground if you drew an imaginary line going through the center of the battery; if it was coming from the areas you mentioned, i should be able to located the leak coming down the block? I don't see any oil coming from the top side of the engine

Have you looked underneath (looking up at the engine) where the puddle is forming? If you don't see any oil running down the engine from underneath then maybe it's a oil line for the turbo?? Try to locate the leak.

Seems like the transmission is leaking, maybe the fill bolt is leaking? I haven't experienced a leaking transmission casing yet.. so I'm not much help here.. Good luck, I hope someone else will chime in here!

Check is your oil filter is tight. Grab the filter and rotate your hand on it - see if there's any oil on your palm...

i think you are on to something regarding the transmission, i re-torqued the bolts on the ATF pan as there was a TSB 37-06-08. I have a feeling that may not resolve it. Anyone have tip knowledge that might have a suggestion?

You obviously do not know where the oil filter is...

OP: Have you a 6spd or automatic? Are you definite it is engine oil or could it be transmission fluid or brake fluid (slave cylinder). Although you insist that it is dropping between the +/- terminals of the battery, fluid can drop anywhere by traveling along the hoses or other structures.

Auto (flamesuit on), It may be tranny fluid - it smells and looks like oil but smells stronger. The tranny fluid was just changed out along with the TC about 5 months ago

sorry for the stupid question, do you have to remove anything to get to the turbo return line?

well... you should be able to see it on the rear side of the block closest to the firewall... you should see 2 stainless steel braided oil lines that run to the turbos. one on the drivers side and one on the passengers side.. i believe :S.. i dont know about the one on the pass side but on the drivers side it was a BITCH to get to... they are allen key bolts IIRC and it was really difficult to squeeze any tools in there but i did it without taking anything off.. i'm not sure about on a TIP trans though
