First post and start with a bunch of questions, sorry


Car in question is a -98 2.8 quattro tiptronic with 240 000 km on the clock, I have changed all four wheel bearings but there's still a sort of grinding noice (just like a wheel bearing gone bad sounds like) coming from the front of the car.


I noticed that the right side output shaft from the differential moves up/down left/right about 1 to 1.5 mm, is this normal? I looked at the service manual and noticed that there is no additional bearing for the shaft, just the side bearing for the diff. So what could it be, the differential side bearing gone bad or something else related to diff/output shaft connection that causes the movement?


Does anybody have the commercial bearing codes for the two front diff side bearings, and for the output shaft bearing on the left side? Just in case I end up changing them, I suppose they are standard bearings and not Audi specific.
