    What to do next... (Tuning)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have GIAC stage 1 chip right now and i think it works like an charm, but you get used to the extra hp fast and want more :-)

    So Whats next...
Im thinking of bigger injectors (tt 225 ones) and upgrading to Stage 1.5 or FX as GIAC calls it...
But i dont know if thats the next to do...
I have stock exhaust, cat and downpipe and not sure if i need to change that first...
If im looking for hp the Cat (200cells) and Downpipe is more prioritated then the cat-back, or am i wrong now?
After that a FMIC, progressiv fuel pressureregulator, and well as the last thing an bigger turbo...

    What do you think?
Go with Cat (200cells) and Downpipe or Injectors and chip upgrade as next thing?

    Best Regards
    Lars

Your best bang for the buck would be to go straight to the FX file with the bigger injectors. It will provide a very nice torque increase and it will work fine with the stock exhaust. I would recommend upgrading the intercooler next followed by the exhaust. Otherwise you will heat soak very quickly in the warmer weather. No need to change the fuel pressure regulator since you don’t have one anyway. The returnless fuel system pressure is regulated by a constant pressure valve in the fuel filter.

I ran the GIAC –FX with a stock exhaust and stock intercooler. I have since upgraded both the intercooler and exhaust. The intercooler made a bigger difference than the exhaust; however I still have a stock cat. I suspect the high flow cat would also make a noticeable difference.

Do you know if i can just upgrade the chip (map it) i got for a lower cost or must i buy a hole new "chip"
I know there is 2 seperate files but do you think thay can work of the stage 1 raw file and just map it for the new injectors?

I don't know how it works in Stockholm, but in the States the chip upgrade from 1 to 1+ is free. Or at least it was in 2006 when I upgraded mine.

ok then i hope its free here too... Sure I will accept the cost for the work of the upgrade time and the change of the injectors, but the program itself would be nice if its free

I am running a TyrolSport SMIC. It's about as big as you can go and still fit in the OEM location. If I recall it has about 360 cubic inches of volume which is pretty hefty for a SMIC. Can't seem to get a clicky from my work computer. Too many filters. Just go to Tyrolsport.com and you can find it.

    Edit: Made correction on volume.

LOL!!!!! Funny stuff El_Chapusca!! At work all I saw was a red X and I wondered what the pic was all about. Imagine my surprise when I got home and opened the thread. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I try to help when I feel I have something to contribute.

BASARAB: Here is a little more info on the TyrolSport SMIC. It might dispel some of the bias against a decent SMIC. .Clicky click Also, I checked the dimensions and the volume for the TyrolSport B6 SMIC is 360 cubic inches. Certainly a larger FMIC will perform better but size for size the SMIC will hold its own.

    Cheers!

That's good to know about the Tyrolsport unit. Always considered it but was nervous it might not really do the job.

Checked with my tuner and they did not think the FX stage was worth it now... maybe efter DP, cat, exhust, FMIC and turbo...

I think its an good stage cus the parts aint expensive... but my tuner wants about 450$ for just the labor... update the chip and installing the injectors...
    Just the labor...
so with the injectors + shipping + labor i would pay around a little more then 800$

What do you think of that?

I mean i could easely install the injectors myself... its almost plug and play... and even update the software if i had it and the program to update...
The problem is that the injectors must be installed at the same time as I update the software... cant be doen before or after cus i have to drive about 70km to the tuning shop...

the labor should be free..but even if not it takes less than an hour to upload the new software.

the injectors should take about 30 minutes to install and is an easy DIY. search for a good one and go for it

Yes i know its easy and should not take 2 hours to install the injectors... but that is what they charge...

Sure i could park outside their parking and change them before... but it dosent feel that nice standing outside and doing that by my self...

You can also use the cheaper Genisis 380cc injectors for cheaper, they are approved and I used them fine with my FX program. The next step with GIAC is the GT28R kit from AWE, pricey but a solid kit as it is what I run. You would definatly need all the supporting mods for it though and it comes with a HFC. PSI is working on a even better kit but haven't seen retail on it.

It takes less than 10 min to re-install injectors. Remove and put back your regular injectors at home, so u get familiar with the process and than its gonna be easy to do it on the parking lot near your tuner shop.

Oh I thought he was saying PSI had a new turbo kit in the works. I already have the TT injectors i'm just trying to plan out my turbo upgrade the GTRS is the leading candidate.

I installed my Test Pipe (gutted cat) one weekend then the next week installed my TT225 injectors, drove 12 miles to my tuner without incident. The new file took care of the Check Engine Light and there was no issue driving with the larger injectors.

i have heard that some get problems with non TT225 injectors... like the White/gray Bosch ones...
I heard of idle issues and so on...

So i rather go with the OEM TT injectors

I will try to install them outside the tuningshop then... shouldnt be that hard to do... just the weather and wind that buggs me... :-)

You do not need to replace the injector seats. You can reuse the retaining clips, although it would be nice to have a few spares in case you drop one.

    ok :-)

One more... I planing on cleaning around the injectors prior to the change... its kind of dirty... and i dont want any debris or dirt inside the intake or injector seat
Can i use like crc quickleen on the intake and around the injectors... whipe of a little and then wash away the rests with water? (not on electrics.. i know!)
Or can it cause the O-rings on the injectors to start leaking?

If they appear to be cracked. Honestly, I have newer heard of anyone having to change them out unless they were using the early APR injectors.

APR used to use their own proprietary injector. It required removing, threading and replacing the injector seats. I don't know if APR still uses these. Clicky click

With regard to the 1+ software setups APR has gone back to just recommending the OEM TT386cc injector. Works well in all conditions and is easier to source than those oeversized injectors they were allowing as an option.
