So I just installed my new APR Snub Mount

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As the title reads, last night I installed my new APR Snubber. 39 bucks from the local dealer, plus the parts old timer graciously price matched ECS for the oil sensor, +1 for my local stealership.

Anyhow, the car feels better now. But, I noticed when I get on the brakes hard I can feel the driveline shift under the car. It makes sort of a pop or clunk. Then when I start moving again it levels out and I hear a corresponding pop or clunk when the drivetrain settles.

I would like to get rid of this annoying (and probably not good) sound / problem. Which mounts should I be looking at to alleviate this issue? Motor, trans, both? DTS? Keep in mind that Im a poor college student and my wife questions every purchase I make for this money pit (LOL).

I would love nothing more to put street density mounts and a DTS on it right now, but finances are a bit prohibitive so its the process of elimination for now.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Also, look at gettin an upgraded rear diff carrier, like the one 034 offers. Should help reduce driveline slop as well.

The apikol rear differential mount + carrier bushings can really tighten up the drive train also. There's a lot of reviews and info out there if you search. I recently upgraded all my mounts in addition to the apikol rear diff mount and bushings and I only noticed a small increase in cabin vibration. I'm expecting it to settle over time, so I'll let everyone know what I think after some added mileage.

Most likely your clunk / pop is the center diff mount. As earlier stated get the apikol poly mount. I bet that will fix it.

I just got these two, but have only installed the diff mount so far... I just gotta find a small press to put those carrier bushings in and I can try it out Oh, and I have had the APR snub and AWE DTS on for a while now, and they definitely helped a lot (although I couldn't get the DTS poly mount to fit, so I'm only running the stock mount for now. Hopefully all of this will tighten everything up nicely w/o too much cabin vibration!

So maybe I should look at a center diff mount instead of trans mounts then? Or should I do the trans then the diff mounts?

Im not too concerned with cabin vibrations, its still pretty stock so its not too loud. Lots of rubber in the suspension still, lol.

This is a raping of the english language. I figured someone driving an S4 would have better grammar than this.

My opinion, get the diff mount, go from there.

True, it's still better than the MKIII Golf/Jetta (Vortex) forum

In my opinion, the stiffer carrier bushings are just as important as the upgraded diff mount, mainly due to the similar stiffness of the diff mount (especially in a high mileage vehicle). You don't even need a press to install the bushings... Just burn the old bushings out using a torch (be careful not to burn the carrier bracket) and the slip the blue inserts into the bracket followed by the center sleeve. Be sure to lube the bushings very well and let us know how the ride feels before and after the install.

I installed them over a month ago (800 miles since) and I've noticed that although the new setup had increased cabin vibration at first, it has since decreased to a little more than stock. Also installed Stern motor and transmission mounts, DTS, Apikol rear diff mount and carrier bushings and already had the 034 snub with cage. The drive train feels locked down, no more clunk.

Sorry, I should've clarified that I have the 034 carrier bushings (street), not the Apikol ones... They're rubber and appear to have some kind of metal sleeve on the outside, so I'm thinking I might need to press them in, or at the very least heat up the diff carrier a bit to get them in.
