Question about paint damage (Clear coat damage on roof in particular)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Can this be repaired without repainting the roof? Can this "damage" be buffed or polished or wetsanded out?

Looks like sun damage. It was just a small baseball sized spot when I bought the car over 3 years ago and has since increased vastly since then, If I wax the roof thoroughly it "vanishes" somewhat...which would indicate clear coat damage, correct?

Any idea if it can be wetsanded or a method of some sort?

unless youre goin to repaint the roof, wetsanding will just make it worse

is the clearcoat gone or is that oxidation? oxidation can be reversed if it isnt TOO late. From what i can tell in the picture its still "curable" grab a nice random orbit polisher and some optimum compound and get to work

I believe it is just oxidation. Because it is NOT flaking or anything whatsoever... I'll take your advice, Nate.

    Thanks guys

How much would it cost to get a roof wrapped in vinyl?

After everything you've gone through with this car, laying vinyl on the roof should be eezy squeezy.

A Porter Cable and Megs 105 are your best friend (check out detailersdomain if you don't know what those two items are). Audi's have notoriously hard clear coats so i'm going out on a limb here and saying it's just oxidation. If the clear is totally gone your SOL but i find that hard to believe.
