Rough Idle, Bogging/ Stuttering undering throttle

A few days ago my 1998 Audi A4 1.8T 165,000 miles started randomly, while driving, idling very heavy and then stuttering and bogging out when i accelerate. It is complete random sometimes not a consistent problem but a problem enough that I am currently not driving it. I am thinking that there is problem with the fuel/fuel filter or maybe something involving the turbo. I was wondering if anybody had any input into what might be the problem because if its a simple fix ie fuel filter I can do it myself but it is really hard to narrow it down to what might be causing the problem.

I'd think Ignition Control Module first, but a fuel problem is also possible.

I'd check for codes, look at fuel trims, and log the MAF to start.

Ok I should mention also that It hasn't thrown a check engine light which seems weird

Possible Vacuum leak, bad MAF, Bad 02 sensor was having the same problem and changed out the fuel filter and the 02 sensor problem went away
