A look into the future.... (Widebody, custom paint...)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, over the course of this winter I was offered a free complete paint job by my work for a "special" color. This color is nearly identical to the CLK63 Matte Silver (paint code 051 I believe).

I have my car now, and there are a few new things since these photos here:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/52847297@N05/

I am bored; I need new intercooler piping on cold side, rework my tune (blah it's laggy), find some exhaust leaks, new intake manifold with r32 TB and install a AEB built head. Unfortuntely I haven't had the time yet to do so yet. I am running the car as in until the snow falls than it's go time!

As shown in the photos above my car is already silver. I will be spraying it a Matte Silver and need some advice.

Should I go do a widebody and try to find some 18x10 or 19x10 rims? I work in a bodyshop, so my labor is all my time. I've never done a "wide body" or custom flares, how did most of you guys flare out the front lip + sideskirts to connect? What do you guys use?

I am not a fan of cutting my fenders, what other methods?

My blades have been left matte black, but I am thinking of getting the carbonfiber doorblades from Eurogear. If I don't go this route, should I spray them black or spray them Matte Silver.

Last thing, can someone photoshop CLK63 Matte Silver to one of my car's photos?

    Thanks in advance.

I don't think there's any way around doing a widebody without cutting your fenders. You'll either need to custom build fenders or you'll need to order RS4 fenders and cut the arch out and mold it to your current fenders (which will need to be cut).

I'd like to see someone do a true widebody and have the rear flare over the doors. Everyone that has done the widebody does it to the rear quarter and that's it.

Hmm, I guess slicing the fenders will be the only real way. Time to do some reading....

Now color, what do you guys think?

Meh, I don't really think a widebody looks good on the B6. B5? Hell yeah. B7? Hell yeah. B6? Huge skip. I'd just get the car repainted, add a USP front and S4 rear, and call it a day.

I think it's because we have yet to see a "proper" B6 widebody. If it had fenders that ran above the body line (like the RS4) and the rear was more than just the quarter panel (like the RS4), I think it would look really good.

I could consider doing it over the doors, my only concern is the proper way of doing things. I don't want to screw this up. Once I start cutting quater panels, there is no return.

Exactly like Greedo said. Nobody has really done a smooth widebody on the B6 that I've seen. It's always fender flares that meet the body at a sharp angle (like the MB Black Series) and look like shit. If I were to go widebody, I would use B7 RS4 fenders and sideskirts, and mold the USP F/R bumpers to match. I would make sure the body line remained B6. (no that sharp crease the B7 has).

I LOVE widebody B6's. It is the best mod possible next to extra HP you can do.

The proper way is to cut the fender lip and roll/pull the fender as high up as possible and add a bit of a lip and stretch.

The DG widebody done there is by user P4aul I believe, he has the BT CVT with the Aston Martin gray paint job.

If you go widebody, 19s will look hideously small, go 20s and never look back.

My suggestion: get RS4 rear quarters and take what you need. It will cost you more, but it will probably cost less in the long run since you're less likely to screw things up (you'd really have to be a noob with metal work to screw that up). You'd probably need a set of RS4 doors as well to get the right flare.

If I do a widebody (which I really would like to), this is the route I'd go. It would be a legitimate widebody and not just an All Road fender flared A4.

Aren't the RS4 fenders made out of aluminum?

RS4 doors are no different. The only difference is that the RS4 has widened quarters/fenders and side skirts that stick out.

I thought the door had a bit of a widebody to it as well....

I need to look at some pics!

Looked: there's a slight flare over the door. You probably can get away with fabbing this portion from sheet metal.

That is by far the sexiest A4 I've seen. If I had the cash, I would make mine into that without the black hood.
