    water getting into car

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
inside the car i have my power wires running through the grommet (the top grommet by the brake booster) in the engine compartment for my amp. i have my boost guage line running through the lower grommet by the brake booster. the water is getting into my car by the lower grommet. is there anywhere else i could get the boost guage line into the car without water getting in... and is there a way to prevent the drain by the battery from getting clogged?

There is a TSB where the recommendation is to completely remove the rubber grommet/drain nipple. The larger hole is much less likely to clog up than the flexible nipple.

That's not whats clogged. Pull your battery out and underneath the tray there are two drain holes. Clean those. My car was fine until I left it for a week when I moved. When I came back, the entire compartment was FULL. Luckily, nothing on the inside got wet, but there was a buttload of muck in those drain holes.

underneath your battery and underneath your brake booster there is a rubber drain nipple. This picture was taken from underneath the car looking straight up. The drain shown is the one underneath the brake booster. The clutch hydraulic line runs out beside the drain. There is a similar drain underneath the battery except it doesn't have the hydraulic line going through it. The TSB recommends just cutting the nipple portion off of the drain shown. The one underneath the battery can simple be pulled out of the hole in the panel. Both can be reached from underneath the car.

I took that pic the last time I was underneath the car doing an oil change. I was lying on my back looking straight up. The drain underneath the battery is slightly harder to reach since it is located above and to the passengers side of the transmission but it is still visible and accessible from underneath.

    I ran mine through here:

You can see a larger pic in this DIY:Clicky click

I cut just enough off of the nipple so that I had to soap up the line to get it to go through the hole. Sealed up nice and tight!
