What all should I be replacing around now? I know the timing belt is a for sure. I'm always scared when i'm driving its going to break D: I changed my coolant flange about 5k ago cause it was spewing everywhere, and my fuel filter needs to be changed, and I did spark plugs and coils at about 80k. Other than that what are some highly recommended things? BTW, when I was on here the other day I seen some post about after market wheels that "looked" just like actual Audi wheels. I believe it was some manufacture that manufactured wheels for Honda and Toyota. Any Suggestions? Thanks!

I always say that when I am doing an oil change why not change the plugs as well that way the car runs in tip top shape. Of course if you don't want to replace them each and every oil change, you can always do it every 2 oil changes. They are so cheap (And EASY to replace)that it's basically cheap insurance.
If you are going to be doing your own timing belt, how about checking the Engine and tranny mounts while the car is apart. Another cheap part that some of us don't realize makes a big difference is your Snub Mount. Again while you are ing on it, might as well get her a few things that will eventually make a big difference in the driving pleasure.

How are your brakes? fluid? Good Idea to check suspension bits too. Overall to make sure you don't have that "will she break down on me?" type of mentality each and every time you take her for a spin to the grocery store or better yet on a road trip.

are you talking about the tensioner for the serpentine belt? either way, i wouldn't drive around until you get that fixed...check up on your PS fluid though and make sure it's not low...

What does this do and where is it located? Mines been doing this the past 40k+ miles

  14. #14
it helps your cat warm up quicker in cold weather for emission. It is typically located by the oil filter and it is a black odd cylinder. They cost around $165+

LOL!! You've been working on too many V-dubs! It's located just behind the radiator on the passengers side of the motor below and in front of the air box. You can trace the small intake tube connected to the front of the air box down to the SAI pump. That's where the SAI draws filtered air to send back to the combi valve.

I am not a fan of using ATF for power steering fluid. Order online or go to the dealer and get the correct fluid.

None other than I just assume a fluid designed specifically for power steering use would be more appropriate than a fluid designed for an auto transmission. I really have no data to back up my assumptions. ATF apprently works fine as you have found out.

QTF...yea, i mean unless you have plans to track it or something i would just go with OEM fluid...it's cheap and the power steering system is $$$ if you have to fix it...i know some people say M1 ATF has higher thermal resistance or something like that, but my car is just a daily driver...

seriously consider driving around for 1k miles with an ounce of autorx in it though...my system was moaning even with the proper amount of fluid and it stopped moaning 300 miles into the cleaning...thank god...

You are WAY overdue for a timing belt replacement if this is your first one at 115k miles. Strongly suggest getting a complete timing belt replacement kit that covers the timing belt, tensioner, serpentine belt, water pump (with metal impellers), and a full coolant flush: http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B6_A4-...Timing/ES8147/

I would inspect the valve cover gasket for any leaks as well as the front control arms (upper and lower). Brake fluid (DOT 4) must be flushed every 2 years regardless of miles. Depending on how old the car battery is (5 years or more), you might want to consider replacing it before the winter season starts. Replacing the power steering and transmission fluids with new OEM parts is a good thing too.

Do a visual inspection of the vacuum and boost lines (if you're a turbo car). Make sure there's no splits or cracks. Other than that, stay on top of regular routine maintenance.

at 114k now. since 100k ive done: front brakes (purely upgrade, to b5s4 brakes), rear brakes, both front axles, power steering rack, all front control arms and tie rods, and general maintenance like oil changes and spark plugs.

i had the timing belt along with waterpump, tensioner, roller, etc done at 70k and will be coming due again in 10-20k miles. if you havnt done it i would highly recommend it.
