Samco IC to TB hose fail FML

So I was feeling hyped that the hose kit I bought off the 'zine about a year ago. I finally got around to installing them, and after a bit of aggressive driving the throttle body to intercooler hose popped off. I pulled the headlight and reinstalled it as tight as I could and went to the track the next day.

Right off launch on my second pass it popped off and was again reinstalled, this time splitting the gap difference between TB and IC to try and even out the poor fit. Seems like the hose needs to be either longer or angled another few degrees for optimal fit.

One successful run later I was feeling pretty good about myself and lined up for another pull. 60' fine, 1/8 mile fine, and somewhere around 1000' or just after it came off again. I still coasted through first but really, WTF??

So before I go bashing a product many of us have used to great success, is there something I ought to try? If, a) sanding down the plastic IC inlet, and, b) getting a new hose clamp (I reused the existing factory clamp) don't solve the issue I'll have to sell or trash the thing. In that case, any suggestions? Only thing I can think of is that there is a slightly different design for the '02 1.8t than '04 and maybe that's causing the issue.

Pics will follow later, I'm posting from my iPhone and can't upload pics.

    Thanks in advance!

Oh this is EASY. Your reusing factory clamps. Big no no. Go buy yourself a set of t-bolt clamps. http://www.summitracing.com/search/b.../?autoview=SKU

Well, doesn't the intercooler inlet/outlet have lips on the ridge? If you're slipping over and off this lip then yes, you probably need new clamps.. I don't remember if the stock IC has lips..

all you need is some kind of lip to slip the hose over.. What i did was screw 3 tiny tiny screws along the ridge of the pipe inlet and outlet.. slip the hose over those screws and then clamp.. There is no way 100psi will slip the clamp and hose over those screws. this is a cheap and dirty fix that WORKS..

    - new hose clamps
    - tighten with a socket (not a screwdriver)
    - i've heard of people spraying a little clear coat on the IC outlet to make the hose stick.

I had this crap happening every few days driving on a regular road. Zip tie+new hose clamp solved the problem.

Use thinners on the inside of the hose and the intercooler outlet to get all the residual oil in/on it and invest in some stronger clamps and you'll be set.
