It would be sick!!! But the big question would be what engine management would you use? Standalone?

there isn't a whole lot of room in between the firewall and bumper carrier (hence the timing belt job being such a bitch). there are like maybe 3 inches extra so you might have to do some frame work =(

Cutting into the second fire wall would give more than enough room I'm sure.

I like the way you think. I don't think the good ole 5 cylinder turbo has been put in a B6 before.

I'm sure it is possible. My friend (who is also a Audi indy) did this to his '95 90. He ripped out the 2.8 and put in the AAN 2.2 I5. It is quite the sleeper (slightly modded)! It took some fabbing in the engine compartment (engine mounts, radiator support, etc). Engine management was used from the '92 S4 he pulled the engine out of. He did all the wiring and everything is working as it should now like OE.

the old 5 cylinder 2.2 turbo. Love that engine! but the car style is just a bit outdated! nothing I could afford to do, or have the time to do anytime soon. but a few years from now. it would be nice to gather the information and have a clue as to what I would need for the transformation! Wouldnt have to worry about the 2.7t 1.8t or the v8 s4s with that bad boy!

I actually almost asked this a couple days ago, but from my understanding it would be way too far forward. There isn't much room up front when it's mounted in the right chassis. I'm not sure though

You have more room to fit a vr6 than you go a I5. I5 is longer and if you have seen how little room you have for a Vr6 you get the idea.

I've been doing a ton of research lately about what's going to replace the B6 soon. The I5 is a monster, but something about a TT V8 in a B5 does it for me.

then what are you supposed to do with the transmission and front half shafts? the only place you can go is forward. and it wouldnt be that hard to fab up a lock carrier. and someone in sweden has done this, I remember watching a vid on youtube

BTW that car needs a front pass side door blade. ;) I wouldn't mind seeing what one of those would do.

Well, I have to say 'yeah, but why would you want to?' Yes, I droll over a turbo boosted inline 5 as much as the next audi freak, but IMO, it doesn't belong in an A4/S4. Probably purely an aesthetic thing with me. Seems to me there are much bigger gains to be had with a 2.7l biturbo, and that will bolt right up with the right parts. I know, it just doesn't have the soul of an i5t, but an i5t swap just seems like a ton of work just to be cool.

Plus, I had to deal with the smog referee here in California, and I wouldn't wanna wish that on anybody.

My point is simple, what use does anyone have with a 1200whp B6 A4? The only thing I can work out is a full out drag car, and with that kind of power it MUST be caged, and have racing seats and harnesses installed. Not something you can drive on the street. At that point you should go with the largest displacement lump you can fit between the framerails and that's clearly not an Audi motor. But whatever, whether you choose a 2.2L I5 or a 7+L V8 the car is already going to be cut to shit. Both the photos and video above show that the old Audi I5 doesn't simply fit in a newer chassis.

PS the best dyno of a 1.8T I can recall was somewhere around 1050whp.

From what I have read, the inline 5 is more potent than the 1.8 and the 2.7. Stage 3 biturbos cant keep up with a properly done inline 5

Thinking that K04's on a 2.7T is "properly done" is the problem here.

Only if moving the trans toward the rear, and that enters the realm of money is no object expensive.
