Exclamation Need your guys' help in choosing wheels. What offset/hub bore to clear fronts?!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm pretty much looking for a decent set of 18" but I don't understand how the whole offset/hub bore ordeal works. Will all 33et offset wheels clear the fronts no matter what the hub bore size is? Does having a lower et always mean that the wheels will be sticking out more than a higher et would? I'm trying to avoid the same mistake I once did which was to buy a set of wheels not realizing they wouldn't clear the fronts. I'm trying to avoid using spacers so if anyone could help me understand how wheel fitments work and what et and or hub bore I need to use to clear the fronts I would really appretiate it. I know there was some wheel calculator that showed you whether or not a wheel would fit the car but I forgot the link.

Thanks for the help as usual!

The other link was the one I was looking for. Thanks, but I don't know how accurate it is. According to it the hp evo wheels will fit the fronts (with 6" backspace) when you compare them to the OEM wheels (5.8" backspace) but this isn't true however. the HPs need 15mm spacers to clear the fronts so this just confuses me even more lol.

    this should help

your bore size just has to do with your hub size, you can run a bigger bore wheel and get a set of center rings to make them fit but it is best to get a wheel with the proper bore to ensure its seated with your hub.

Here are the wheels I was looking at. If anyone can confirm that these will fit that would be great.

Or something similar. I have to get wheels quick because some mother******s decided to put bricks all over a street which bent all my wheels so now I'm wheel-less. I don't really have too much cash to spend atm.

most 18x8 wheels with et35 should fit/ clear your HP2's....

no need for spacers either... but i said MOST since some spoke designs dont allow for proper clearance at the said offset.

they wont clear without a spacer, and when you have new pads you will need like a 13mm spacer.

Can anyone recomment some sort of mesh style wheels (similar to the ones I posted) that will fit without spacers? Or any type of wheel with with a 1-2" lip for under $800? I really need to get a set quick because, like I said, my wheels are currently all fucked.

    I tried: tirerack.com; discounttiredirect.com; wheelmax.com; wheelsnext.com; 1010tires.com (which doesn't even list any wheels for the S) and I can't find anything good.

Are there any other good websites with compatible wheels?

there is nothing wrong with spacers, oh yeah with those wheels you need tuner lugs to mount them

I know there's nothing wrong with spacers. I just don't want to pay another $200 for them. I'm short on cash as it is already so I just need some wheels that I simply slap on.

I actually borrowed these wheels but in 18x9 size instead of 18x8 (same offset of 35) from a friend once. The fronts needed a 10mm spacer but how exactly does wheel width affect whether or not spacers are needed? What I'm trying to ask I guess is, does the wheel have a better chance of fitting without spacers up front on the 18x8 wheel then the 18x9 wheel because it's narrower or would that mean it would need like a 20mm instead of 10mm because it's 18x8 instead of 18x9?

its the spoke design on these wheels, i run 18x9 all around. it just has to do with the offset and design of the spoke, you can run a 10mm spacer but once you get new brake pads you will need at least a 13mm. trust me.

How about you just buy used wheels from the classifieds? Would save you a lot of time and hassle.

Like it was said above, almost all 18x8 et35's will fit (like my O.Z. Ultraleggeras) w/out spacers, minus the most extreme spoke designs. Keep in mind that offset doesn't stay the same as you change widths. The offset is the measurement of how far towards the center of a rim the hub is. When the width changes, the same offset won't work.

For example, an 8" wide rim is 203.2mm wide. Divide that by 2 for the center line = 101.6mm. All rims that fit w/out spacers have a positive offset (towards the outside of the rim), so an et35 is +35mm from the center. Using those numbers, you would then have 66.6mm from the hub to the outside lip, and 136.6mm from the hub to the inside lip, which is about 5.4".

Now, a 9" wide rim is 228.6mm wide. Half that is 114.3. So an et35 would give you 79.3mm from the hub to the outside, and 149.3mm from the hub to the inside, which is about 5.9", a whole half inch difference that can make or break the clearance of the suspension components, which can be fixed with a 10mm, 12mm, or 13mm spacer.

EDIT: For reference, the stock rims are 7.5" wide, et45. That's 190.5mm wide, which is 95.25" from edge to centerline. That makes the hub 140.25mm from the inside, 45.25mm to the outside. Also have to keep in mind that you have to worry about wider rims rubbing the fenders, especially if lowered.

Sorry, probably way more in-depth than needed, but hopefully it helps others out, too.

Another tip, if you aren't CERTAIN a wheel will fit, order 1 to test fit, its much cheaper than mailing back 4.
