Red face Newbie 2 Audi on board... What should I do 2 it first??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I've had a 99' Honda Civic EX and an 03' Nissan Altima. Both were very nice on the exterior but stock on the performance end. I now have a 99' A4 1.8tQ. My first turbo car!! Yayyy!! I got my Audi with a blown engine. Put a used one in with 100k. Started it up... Turbo was junk! Replaced it with a k03 off of eBay, I know, I know, I could of done alot better if I had the money, but hey, it worked! Started it up... Still wasnt running right. Bought an ECU from a salvage yard and BINGO!! It started running right and I was siked! The air bag light is still on, need some wheel bearings, and the OBD isn't reading put I hopefully have fixed that problem with changing out my radio. I am married with children... Knowing that, what should I do/get for my A4?? Oh yeah I hate stock height cars so I dropped it already with H&R's!
    God Bless You!!

What you want is, if that eBay turbo Does go, hope that it's the exhaust fins that break not the intake side. Maybe once all is done it would be good for you to go the k04 route.

I would look into getting a used ko3 here off of the classifieds. You usually can find them from $100-$200. I wouldn't trust the ebay turbo, too many horror stories on here about them. Once you get the turbo situation figured out I would look into getting it chipped. That was the first mod I did and I don't regret it at all. Also get a boost gauge so you can monitor what the turbo is doing.

I have two front wheel bearings if you want them. Got them with my car and don't need them. They have a little bit of rust on the outside, but I think it would come right off.
Let me know, PM me if you want them, I can get you pictures of them too.

Oh, and the airbag light is most likely caused by the plug under your seat. Or the passenger seat. Just clean both plugs good and then clear them with Vag-Com and you should be good to go.

That's another thing. If you don't have a Vag-Com, you should get one!

Took the words right out of my mouth!! Before you start dumping money into it, make sure you're spending it where you need to. A VAG-COM is a cheap investment - click here for the cable you will need. The shareware version of the software is free, and is a good place to start.

    1. Fix that air bag
    2. Vag-Com
    3. Boost Gauge

    Performance for a family man:
    1. K04 (can be found cheap on the classifieds $400)
    2. ECU and Fuel (again, found cheap on AZ classifieds $150 inj, $400 software)
    3. No need a FMIC for k04 (mainly bc your in worcester, MA)

it makes diagnosing problems a hell of alot easier, sometimes issues with the coil packs,maf,o2 sensors, injectors etc etc can disguise themself as a boost leak, so if you can rule that out off the bat then it makes things that much faster.. it can also help you figure out when that cheapo turbo takes a shit

after you fix your maintenance problems, check out chip options for your car, it adds a substantial amount of hp, best bang for your buck for our cars.

before you chip it, id suggest maintance/support mods

dv/silcone hoses, ded get a boost gauge. will let you know when youve got some serious problems, weather its a boost leak or turbo took a sh!t.

if you do these things first before you chip it you will run into alot less problems. last thing you want is to spend on your money on "go fast" mods and it breaks.... or doesnt go fast lol.

i think youd be set with chip, wheels, exhaust. after support mods that is :P

I have still yet to figure out my flash. Im hitting 15psi but can spike to 22 even 25 if the air is nice n cool.. Thats what you want to watch out for.. Extream Spikes in your boost.

If your not chipped i believe it will be a max of 8psi if you are it goes from 15 +

Plus having a boost guage will tell if you if you have some funky Vacuum leak going on too.

Yea now you have to hook it up to vag-com and clear the codes. If they clear your all set.

Also, did you get the wheels bearings put in yet I sent you?

Bro, I forgot to tell you that those bearings are for the 2.8! A little bummed but someone else will get the blessing! Let me know if you run into someone with the 2.8 that needs them so I can ship it to them.

And I don't know anybody with the vag com system! I don't have a laptop to try to figure it myself either!
