hey guys... i finally fixed my alternator problem.... it ends up that most of the diode died after the belly pan was lost.... anyhow.. when i was checking the car today... i see some... well i should say slight oil markings on the left valve cover.... so i am guessing time for a new valve cover gasket.... i checked alldata for repair instruction... but.. STEP 1 "REMOVE ENGINE"...... so i am wonder if anyone knows if theres easy ways to replace the valve cover gasket!!!

its the one on the left hand side btw....

    any input welcome!!! thanks guys

dont know what you are reading, but no need to remove engine, its really staight forward actually pop your hood and take a look. everything is fairly accesible.

Step one should read STEP 1 - "GIVE RS6 TO SCHNELL" ha

IM sure Gmens engine rebuild thread would have this in it. But pulling the motor? For a Valve cover? The only thing youll have to do is move a bunch of wiring a stuff out of the way. Then wrench away!

I put a light coat of curil K2 on my VC gaskets to keep them soft and squishy.

It's worked thus far for 6 years on my 01 A4 and 4 years on my 02 A6 4.2. Make sure to change the cam chain adjuster gaskets as well they are probably leaking too.

Driver side vc gasket can be changed in the car.

Pass side vc gasket calls to drop the engine in the RS6.

You can get by with bending some piping out of the way and trying to bend the pipes back. I would not bend those pipes. Snug the vg mounting bolts on the pass side.

I believe the main water outlet pipe (the one going to the top of the radiator) gets in the way. I wouldn't bend it but if you lift the engine about an inch(may require removing the bottom of the engine mount on that side) you can get to the bolts that hold it on and move the pipe out of the way. I've managed to replace the pass gasket without taking the engine out however I don't think I'd want to do it again.
