$3k worth of work at 46k?

So my mom calls me to tell me she brought her 2006 A4 2.0T in to the dealership, and they told her that a few things would need to be replaced soon at the cost of ~$3k. There was a fairly long list that the SA read to her over the phone, but she only wrote down two of the things:

    Intake Manifold
Turbo boost cutoff (diverter valve? I'm not 100% sure what this is)

The car only has 46k on it, she doesn't exactly drive aggressively, it sounds to me like they're trying to rip her off. What do you guys think?

uh, ya.... Intake manifold? sounds fishy man, I have 58k on my car and the only thing I will get fixed in the future is my timing belt/diverter valve. Otherwise I will let things break before I fix them b/c they will do no more harm to compound the probelm.

Also, the dealership always overprices EVERYTHING. a new DMFW from them costs around $900 and i got a CM stage 3 clutch AND LWFW for $1000. I say order whatever you need yourself, then take it to a reputable garage.

Yea I agree, an intake manifold does sound questionable. However, an intake manifold flap motor sounds more realistic. Those seem to be a commonly failed part on the 2.0 engines......same with the turbo cut off valve. Good luck

If the car isn't under warranty, she's better off taking to a local independent mechanic. The dealer is overpriced and they seem to like taking advantage of people.

Get the list, have another mechanic look. Audi wanted $360 for the plastic backing to my seat. I told them screw that. I will not pay them $360 for a piece of plastic. So moral of the story. Check somewhere else.

for 3k what about Intake Cam, Cam Follower, new fuel pump, DV and intake flap motor. That would be quite common / normal for a 2.0t with 46k miles...

and should cost around 3k to get it fixed.

I have seen my fair share of independent shops scam, rip, and screw customers. Then again most are no longer in business.

Do you know anything about the b7 2.0? Most of what jayphil82 listed is beyond common on these cars. Most of which can and have happened at lower miles.

Why did you mom take it in? Was she experiencing any drivability concerns, a check engine light, or was she just bored and wanted to qet a quote from a dealer, so somebody could complain about it?

I had something like this happen to mine last year. Dealer fixed it and warranty covered the bill which was about that much... I believe i was pushing over 40k... don't remember exactly....
