Hey guys dont really post that much more of a reader but i do have a quaestion, i live in europe and have a 1994 aeb a4 it has the early type ecu, and well it doesnt have the same ecu plug as the later models, would this pose a problem for getting it flashed? really need to know because i was going to post it to APR and wouldnt want it to get there and they couldnt flash, ive looked on their website but cant find a contact email. Has any one got an early ecu flashed?

    Thanks Gavin

The AEB ecu cannot be flashed, the only way to change the software is to put in a (re)programmed chip.

But why send it to APR when in Switzerland there a plenty tuners around who can do this job? But, to be honest, the prices in CH are way overrated, if I were you I would make a trip to Germany and get my car tuned overthere.

FYI APR has an authorized dealer in Germany Berlin, www.mft-berlin.de

Its not a na it's an early 1.8t, I was wanting to send it to apr because as you said the prices in Switzerland are outrageous, most chips over here cost between 1000-2000 Swiss francs, with today's exchange rate it's about 1/1, it's going to be the same for Germany. Does any one know who in the us could do it?

    Thanks gavin

Malanca, actually I think your wrong on this one, the AEB ecu can be flashed. How do you think maestro works? They ship eveything to you and its all done by computer which pretty much means your flashing the ECU.

I dont think they get the same chip tuners we do, but GIAC first came out with it. I drove to AWE Tuning and they installed a new Bosch chip that you could flash through the OBD port to change tunes. Then Tapp came out with it when using his ME5 Meastro. But like I said, overseas they dont get the same chip tuners that we do here in America.

ok guys, over here we have revo and giac wo have dealers. the nearest giac dealer is about 1500miles away and the nearest revo is alao about 400miles away, this is why i am asking about the us scene as i could post it and it would still be cheaper than driving to one of my nearest dealers. what exactly is the ME5 maestro and TAPP. I have a spare ecu so the car would not be off the road it would be a simple swap. Also like i said chips in the us are so much cheaper, i went to an audi main dealer who sold ABT chips, they wouldnt chip my car beacuse it had more than 60000kms! and the price was 2000 dollars, thats why i was thinking to send it to the us.

what is your ECU say? does it say ME3? or ME5? IDK if GIAC in America can flash it. Your best bet would be to email AWE Tuning.. www.awe-tuning.com

Meastro is only usable if you are big turbo. If you are stock and looking for a reflash, then your best bet is to look in the US GIAC dealers. You can check APR and IDK if Revo US has anything for b5's, especially AEB's. They do a lot of R&D in the 2.0t and B6 crowds.

If your car is the ecu number 8D0907558E, 8D0907557T or 8d0907558d it can not be flashed.

You can chip your ecu, is the sure bet. I also sell eurodyne, you might want to email [email protected] to see if that works.

    Hope that helps..

There are a lot of tuners in Germany who will do this job for 500-1000 Euro's. Just don't focus solely on the companies like Abt or MTM. I can recommend:

    - FTS Tuning http://www.fts-tuning.de/
    - TS-tuning http://www.ts-tuning.net/
    - EVO-s http://www.evos-tuning.de/

Those guys do better jobs than the big ones, they perform a custom-fine tuning which is always better than a fixed program.

EDIT FTS Tuning has a fixed Program for the 1.8T for only €419,- This company is well recommended by many German A4 drivers. Just think about it...

    @TOmat3

Apperently the AEB has had different ecu's over the years. The 3.8.2 Motronic sure cannot be flashed in OEM mode. Maybe with a modified chip on it this becomes possible.

swapping us-spec ecu should solve your problem.
i have non-us spec b5 (ecu no.558e) and eurodyne told me it can't be flashed but 557n & 557p can.
so i swapped my ecu to 557p i bought off ebay and runs no problem.(you can't flash it from OBDII port though)

Sheesh holy bump. You can flash all 3.8.3s and 5.9s but you cant read through OBD. 3.8.2 cant be flashed only with chip programmer.
