Maybe spacers to bring the height of the shifter assembly up?

^^ yes, that's what they're for, did you watch the install video for the b6/b7 s4? they go under the shifter rails to raise it up so you can still have your push down reverse.

weird, i put mine in w/o them at first and the shifter bottomed out when pushing it down. Had to put those 4 little bushings under the rails to lift the shifter up.

In that case, I'm not putting them in since the kit didn't come with longer fasteners, and I'm not risking short threading the console and stripping the threads.

I didnt have them installed at first and the entire assembly was pushed far forward for reverse to grab, everything felt fine but didnt seem right
After a month I took everything apart and found i didnt install the spacers, totally new feel, way better and everything was more centered in the shift boot.
I suggest you try to install them, it takes like 10 mins if everything else is already in place.

Never installed mine and everything was fine. The shifter being too far forward or too far back has nothing to do with those spacers in my experience with the several JHM shifters I installed.

I don't think that's an issue buddy. They've sold easily hundreds of these kits and never heard of that being an issue once. I think they took their time developing this kit so you'll be fine. I know they also included upgraded bushings that replace the stock bushings. If you reuse the stock bushing you get a softer more oem feel, if you use the upgraded bushings then you get a much more rigid tight feel. I've run both and prefer the upgraded bushing much more.

Just checking, but it wasn't installed reversed was it (as in the notch while looking vertically from above wasn't on the wrong side from what they describe in the DIY?) I had a shop install mine first and they did that and it was slanted very far forward and very difficult to engage reverse. They said it was installed correctly and must of just been the shifter. I researched some and then had Jay call the shop and everything was fixed up right after that. Needless too say wasn't a good first/last experience with a shop. But they did right the wrong and since then I've messed around with the shifter some to really see how it's all setup.
