Quick connect on brake boost or spyder hose to manifold

Basically a stupid question but hoping someone can clarify this for me. The connection from the brake boost line to the manifold broke off. I didn't pay close attention to what was left of the connector. I got the new brake boost line and it's not coming close to going in. My question (finally) is the manifold "empty" and the connector should slide in with slight pressure getting the gasket pushed in? I'm pretty sure this is so, and I'm afraid the old connector piece is in the manifold. And there isn't much room to get it back out. Thanks for the help.

Lacking confidence is a terrible feeling. Leads you to ask dumb questions. Oh well. Got a mirror so I could see into the back of the manifold, and yep, there was the old connector broken off within. Picked up some newer needle nose pliers and yanked the damn thing in out in 2 seconds. Got the car back up and running again. Still doesn't seem perfect, but no codes so far!
